Input Errors

Filling in for a Network Engineer and came accross this

777 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 10 overrun, 757 ignored

I was told to look for input errors but his documentation on our internal site does not state anything about "overrun" and "ignored" errors. does this mean if something is ingored that its good?

What's the device and interface? As there aren't any "hard" errors (CRC, or framing) I wouldn't worry too much. Overruns (and ignores) would suggest buffer/queue overflows, or high CPU/IRQ utilization.

Third. What type of interface, and secondly how old are those counters? Are they incrementing?

Generally speaking, if they're on the INPUT direction (outside into the guts of the router), first place I'd look
is cabling and the otherside of the connection.
