push verizon

it's time to shove Verizon's high prices out the window for many customers.. offer 50 megabits (should be entry level today) for $30!!-- and revamp speeds / tier pricing.

I'm only paying $70 a month for 150/65 from Verizon right now. That is alot cheaper per megabit than I was paying in 1998 when I had 5mb/s down and 1mb/s up from cable for $16 a month.

Man... 5/1 for $16? I'd go for that in a heartbeat (I'm sitting at 30/5). Anything over 15/5 is just wasted money.

Ok but whats the caps on this, because wireless companies have a stranglehold on the market with high prices and low caps. Even if its coming from a cable company.

This sounds like part of an extreme triple play bundle maybe (or a relative of an employee??).. standalone 15/5 is $70. not 150/65. That'll be the day (10+ years from now) verizon reaches those prices standalone w/ no contract. Greed is the standing order at Verizon these days.

A friend of mine in south FL has this. He got a roku box and there are no caps or bandwidth restrictions. It really is a good deal.

Who had 5/1 for $16? Cox in 98 was $30 plus $15 modem rental.

Today.

And I hope it stays that way.

But history has shown what wireless companies do with unlimited services once they have enough subscribers on the hook. (Just ask any AT&T customer who had an iPhone on the unlimited data plan in the recent past.)

Agreed. If this were to take off, I think customers would quickly learn that the corporate definition of 'Lifetime' is not what you or I would consider correct. It becomes 'Well, that was $30/month for the lifetime of that package... but we are doing away with that package now and shifting customers to a better option.'

well true, the lifetime may not always be lifetime just as the case with ATT unlimited customers however in this case I believe it will be. It will only be limited to 50 mbps, so when a 100 mbps or higher package is available that will end your unlimited if you ever upgrade keep the 50 and your fine.

ATT customers would have been happy having grandfathered unlimited 3G (Throttle speeds) over 4G HSPA/LTE but that's just not how ATT like to play. ATT never plays fair its always dirty business for them.

Well good for you however everyone does not have that option in 2002-3 I was paying ATT 12.95 per month for 1.5mb down/256K up Unlimited, plus you were required to have a phone line for and extra $10. Now a decade later Im paying $35 for only 3mb down / 512k up Naked DSL and only 150 GB limit over the same dried up copper.

To be fair if my ATT price followed the same formula as yours Id be paying $5 for my DSL, but alas I am not and neither is anyone else on ATT.

Agreed, FIOS keeps increasing internet prices. A couple of years ago stand alone 15/5 was $55, then $60, now it's $70($75 no contract).

I had Jones cable. In 1997 I had a one way cable modem from them that had 1Mb/s down and the upload was from a 56K internal modem, all in the cable modem box. In 1998 they upgraded me to a two way cable modem and I had 5Mb/s down and 1Mb/s up for $16 a month. A year or two later Comcast bought Jones cable, then the rates went up and the speeds went down.
