Re: HBO and Cinemax free preview - 3/29 - 4/1

I have a Series 3 with OLED display with 2 FIOS cablecards. I got a letter a while back about possibly needing to re-pair the cards or I would lose channels. I went to a few different forums including this one and the general consensus was that I didn't need to worry about it since I didn't have premium channels, especially if I could 'see' channel 131.

I checked channel 131 and it worked fine...still does. No worries at the time...

Today, there is a free HBO/Cinemax weekend so I figured I would Tivo a bunch of movies like I usually do. However, all the HBO/Cinemax movies show me the cablecard screen with a quasi-error message that says:
The Cablecard considers the host to have only one-way RF capability.

I tried re-pairing the cards through automated voice system and that does not appear to have worked.

I have a plain jane free digital adapter on an upstairs TV and I'm getting the free preview up there just fine.

Any suggestions?

The MPEG4 switch-over for some of the HBO/Max channels isn't until April 15, so that's not his issue. They're still mpeg2.

dgbretz, are your cards the old S-cards? You may need to swap them with two M-Cards at this point.

This is news to me, do you have a link from Verizon regarding HBO/MAX migrating some channels over to mpeg4?

thanks

Yes, I believe they are the old S-cards. As you noted, this is not an MPEG4 issue.

I wish I could say how they fixed it but I got on the phone with Verizon who ended up working with "Level 3" support to do something that got both tuners working fine with the free preview. I had to read out the cable card info multiple times.

So it appears the channel 131 test to see if cablecards are paired correctly does not work in all cases...
