Yippie....

Meanwhile, I sit here at my home computer and its lousy connection for a half hour while uploading a few family pictures for email to relatives.

Why don't those lab "boys" expend their energies into developing a practical and cheap way of making last mile connections that I (and the rest of the country) could actually benefit from - INCLUDING GETTING ME A BROADBAND CONNECTION!?!

You can shove huge amounts of data around the country until your nose drops off if that’s what you want, but it is almost entirely useless when people can't take advantage of tapping into it.

Sheesh....

Agreed. And with fewer competitors with each passing day, the telco's have little incentive to improve things -- they can simply sit back and feed from the revenue stream generated by existing technology...

Because you don't pay the MILLIONS per unit they can make from the telcos.

actually Rivian they already have and its called DIRECPC. well IF U dont want to PAY for it then dont complain. The service is there. its YOUR fault YOU have a dialup connection. there are definetly alternatives dont blame the lab boyz who are trying to improve our lifestyle here in the city. oh here is another solution that might work for you get yourself out of that barn and move into a populated area (aka city) where your broadband choices are grater. If not THEN DONT COMPLAIN.

Wow that was awfully harsh! DirectPC or satalite broadband can't compare with DSL. The ping is worse than dialup and the bandwidth isn't that spectacular either. Ontop of that he'll probably endup paying double or triple what you pay after he buys all the equipment to make it work. Maybe those lab boys should spend a bit of time researching methods of dilivering quality broadband cheaply.

I'd rather be on 56k dialup modem than to have direcpc and their FAP.

I probably wouldn't last a month with DirectPC, I just moved 900MB down on my DSL over the last 30 hours. I would be WAY over the daily limit of 250MB on DirectPC.

Obviously, you know nothing about satellite service. The upload speed for DirectPC is no better than your average modem connection.

Oh, and by the way, I do have Direct PC....or didn't you look at my signature line very closely?

As to the rest of your comments....well, out of respect for DSLR and the forum I will not even bother responding.
