Re: New Equipment 2013(VIP2500, NVG589, 5031,VAP2500, and more)

5031s are showing up, as are 5168s (Pace/2Wire)

Do you know if the 5031 has a proper bridge mode or if it's the same DMZ feature that the 3800HGV-B has?

I have a business account with a block of IPs and I would really like to actually use those IPs. However, in order to do that I need to forward the block through to my own router. The 3800HGV-B cannot do that.

Haven't had the chance to play around with the gui yet on the 5031 or 5168, but since they are still 2Wire/Pace devices, I would expect the same interface/configuration as the 3600/3800/3801/i3812

I'll wait until the new motorola is in the field in the south east in that case. Once I know they're in the field, I'll try the direct forum here and then I'll start pestering retention if that doesn't get me anywhere.

The 5031 does not have IP passthru. I don't know about 5168 since we are getting NVG589.

Based on the user manual for the nvg589, I'm fairly certain it has an IP passthru option. I just hope the southeast (old bellsouth territory) gets that device.

NVG589 are being tested currently in several markets as the replacement for the outside inid i3812. Eventually using 2 pairs will no longer involve removing your nid and replacing with the inid but running cat5 and using 2 pairs all the way.

5031 are replacing the old 3600ig for hisa/voip only on vdsl. I go into the shop tomorrow so hopefully mine have come in since I only have 1 3600 left and would like to use the new one. Looks like a mini 3801 but does have wireless n (edit) no gigabit ethernet though

The 5031 has the same shell as the 3801 and regular dsl 4111, and sizewise is smaller than the 3801 but bigger than the 4111

The 5168 supposedly does pair bonding for both ADSL2+ and VDSL2, as well as working on single pair for either

From what I've been able to find online, none of the newer pace gateways have a proper bridge mode or ip passthru option. They all seem to have the same "dmzplus" mode that only allows a single IP to be assigned to a device. Since you guys have had a few of these devices on hand, can you confirm this?

I will get into the gui next time I get the chance to use one, but I expect it will have the same DMZ+ type option, without a bridge mode or even IP Passthru/Cascaded Router options

Much appreciated.

It's just a shame that I can't get the new firmware for the Motorola 2310 as I have one of those just sitting in storage.

The 2310 doesn't work with Static IPs (neither does the 2210), so even with the current firmware it would not be appropriate for an account with Statics

Oh well, at least I didn't pay for it. A friend who moved to town had used it at his previous house.

Just so I'm clear though, the NVG589 will technically work with a single pair, internet only/static IP account and it would also support the dual pairs required for the future tiers. It's just a matter of getting my hands on one. Is that correct?

Haven't had the chance to use one at all, but in theory, yes

I believe the answer is yes to all of your questions. As far as I'm aware, the NVG589 has not shown up in the field yet for general availability. I believe they are expected to start showing up in the distribution channel within the next 2 months. They will probably still be deploying the 3801's for single pair, triple-play installs for the forseeable future anyway, until the warehouse stock is depleted. So, unless you order a service tier requiring 2 pairs, you might not get one for awhile.

You would also need an AT&T version of the product with a supported device certificate for 802.1x authentication or it will never work.

I remember there being someone in April on the AT&T forums looking for help with their NVG589.

What I'm hoping is that since I have a business account, I'll be able to bitch and moan a bit (after asking nicely first of course) to get a NVG589 once they are available in the region.

I'll be signing up for the highest tier (which would require 2 pairs) as soon as the new tiers are available in my area. Who knows how long that will be though.

Your correct, they arent available for all places yet but they have been testing them in SC, KC Area, Reno and I cant remember the other area. Hopefully the nvg589 will be available everywhere by the end of the summer??

The VEN501/ISB7105 will be used along with the VAP2500/VIP2500 I'm assuming. I haven't seen a VEN501 with U-verse labeling yet though.

VEN501 FCC documents are listed on one of the past pages
