They're probably beta testing it on the network right now. |

I'm on Time Warner Cable (soon to be Comcast) and I'm looking for the same one. I did an online chat with an Arris/Motorola representative and they had no date available yet.
I just do a Google search every couple of days. Shouldn't be too long though, TWC has it on their list of approved modems. |

» www.timewarnercable.com/ ··· dem.htmlThis link says that the SB6183 should be available through retail in July. |

Thanks, that's great news. OK, then the next step is to have Comcast add this 16x4 modem to their Approved DOCSIS Devices list (» mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/) then! |

Would be cool, but wouldn't the best step have been to put out a retail 24x8 system. Doesn't 16x4 sound a little off? |

All the 24x8 systems I've seen are wireless/telephony gateways and the fastest modems available right now are 8x4. It will be nice to have just a higher-speed modem as a choice for those who don't need/want a gateway. |

They should have went straight to 24x8 but the question is when will CC actually provide 24x8 ? Welcome to corporate America where they keep on selling *planned obsolescence* devices... $$$ |

Welcome to corporate America where the keep on selling *planned obsolescence* devices... $$$ I would say that they do 24x8 within 2 years. Those hybrid 3.1 modems are said to do a minimum of 24x8 on the D3 side. Unless I start having problems with my 6141 or problems that a 16x4 will immediately fix, I'm staying with my 6141 until a 24x8 unit is released retail. |

I am with you Chris. I will be skipping the 16x4 and keep my 6141 until the 24x8 comes out whenever that may be. |

i wonder how far they'll take the channel-bonding? i would think that with more and more channels added, the returns would start to diminish at some point. |
|
|
So coming 2015 I need to get a new modem.? |

said by redbeard916:So coming 2015 I need to get a new modem.? If you haven't gotten an 8x4 modem by now, I would recommend getting one if you're having speed issues with not being able to keep up. If you have, I'd wait until 24x8 units come out and then pick one up. I've had my 8x4 unit for a year (On a spec that's been out 3-4 years now) and I like to stay ahead of the curve a little bit. So within 6 months of 24x8 unit retail release, I'll be going from 8x4 to 24x8. What speed do you have now? Modem? And are you having any issues? |

SB6183s have been available from one seller on eBay in the past but his listings specifically stated they would not work for Comcast subscribers. It's also worth noting these modems are noticeably smaller than SB6141s. |

That's what we have up here in Mendocino County, CA, and 8 Downstream Channels. We just went from 2 to 3 upstream channels last year. I'm running a 8x4 modem, the Zoom 5341j. I wonder when we'll see more downstream/upstream channels, any idea? |

Yes, with most U.S. systems currently having a return path frequency range from 5 to 42 MHz, you are unlikely to see any more than 4 (6.4 Mhz wide ATDMA) upstream channels being provided (and it's a bit of a squeeze to do that, as the spectrum below 20 MHz is often quite noisy). These Nx8 modems would normally only be able to utilize more than 4 upstream channels when used in European ("EuroDOCSIS") cable systems, where the return path frequency range usually runs from 5 to 65 (or more) MHz. See these previous threads for more discussions about this: » 8 downstream 8 upstream modem?» Dream Modem - 24x8 |

When I was at my local Staples store (in Middletown, NJ) this morning, I saw that they had two SB6141 (8x4) modems on their Clearance Sale table, marked at $75.50 (reg. $89.99). I wonder if this is due to the SB6183 (16x4) model becoming available soon? |

Any idea how much the SB6183 will be selling for? If the price will be the same as, or not much more than, that of the SB6141, then that would definitely make sense. The SB6121 (4x4) model will probably continue to be offered as the low-cost (and lower-speed) model/choice. |

As for the 6121, I hope they stop manufacturing it and replace it with the 6141. 4x4 tech is almost 8 years old and showing it's age, lower speed choice or not. Add to the fact that in a few months, you'll start seeing notices to start replacing 4x4 units as not being able to keep up with what Comcast wants to do |

Sure, but weren't those engineering test samples ya'll bought? Couldn't they have slimmed stuff down for the white, retail version? |

While it is a test sample, look at the pics of the white one, namely the space between the icons on the front and the edge - it's the same size as my black one.

/M Regardless of what the case is, as long as it works, I don't think most would give a flip about size. Guess we'll have to see what happens down the road. Good luck with your unit. Hope it's kicking ass. |
