[INTERNET] Ultimate 30 becoming Ultimate 55?I received this today via email from Cogeco. Dear Valued Customer,
We have some great news for you! As part of our continued dedication to delivering service improvements, we're increasing your High Speed Internet download speed at no extra charge !
As of mid-April 2014, your download speeds are going to go up way up! In fact, we'll be progressively increasing your speed from 30 Mbps to 55 Mbps1. To reflect that speed change, your Ultimate 30 package will be renamed Ultimate 55.Really? This is great news. Anyone know anything more about this? I don't see it previously talked about and there is nothing on their website. Have I been duped? |

I received the same email. Great news. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but how about increasing the cap? |

I called the sales team at Cogeco yesterday about it and they said they do not know anything about these e-mails being sent out. I said, they are and they said they will send something to their supervisor so they can get updated on it. |

Got the email too. I guess this means they won't be upgrading the bandwidth cap if we are getting the upgrade mid April which would suck if they only upgraded speed. |

I also got this email today. If someone confirms it true make sure everyone is update. I found it odd that it was sent to my secondary email address and not my cogeco email address. |

In other words. RATE INCREASE BECAUSE WE CAN |

Would be nice if they stopped paying attention to the Ultimate packages and get more work on the bottom half of their Inet packages.

They're working from the top down. 60 became 120. 30 is going to become 55. If I were to hazard a guess 20 will probably become 40. 10 will probably become 16 as that is the highest they can realistically do on DOCSIS 2 equipment. |

More like dropping the download speed to 0.55, have been getting this speed since yesterday, nothing on my network changed. » www.speedtest.net/result ··· 7310.png |

I heard something's going to happen with the caps on the bigger plans too... I hope that the caps go up more....I can handle 425GB on 60Mbps (9-15Mbps during peak hours - stupid congestion, but I digress), but when my speed gets pumped to 120Mbps, I don't know, but I may have to switch to a TPIA with unlimited. Hope I don't considering with the usage I have on 60Mbps, Cogeco is cheaper (my god, did I say Cogeco is cheaper than TPIA's for 60Mbps - "smack mouth in disgust"). |

said by urbanriot:I heard something's going to happen with the caps on the bigger plans too... It is making it much much harder for the TPIA providers to remain competitive, as a 500GB+ cap on Ultimate 55 should the TPIA providers continue to be in a position of only offering 30 with a 250GB cap makes it much more difficult for me to remain loyal to an indie, as much as I would want to. If Ultimate 120 was more reasonably priced in the $70 range, I probably would have switched already, but the moment FTTN becomes available in the rest of Niagara (Welland is being rolled out right now, Fort Erie has already been surveyed and the fibre network is being laid) my days with cable are done and I'm switching to DSL. |

I wish they would upgrade Chatham for FTTN quicker. Only certain areas right now have FTTN and others are waiting for remotes to be installed. In my section, that seems to be on the backburner for Bell at the moment. Cogeco is lacking so much in getting congestion issues fixed, and cost to up-keep a cable infrastructure is more than an existing copper/fibre network. Oh well |

I'm surprised you have any FTTN in Chatham at all. The only thing in Fort Erie faster than 6Mbit/s DSL on the Bell side are the FTTH neighourhoods in Ridgeway and Stevensville, and even though they are FTTH last I checked they couldn't get Fibe TV.
We're supposed to be getting it here. I had the guys walking through my back yard surveying for fibre drops. There's been new fibre struck up all over the place. I just don't know when we're actually going to see the new white 7330s actually start to show up next to the OPIs. Buildout was going on in Welland over the winter. Will we be so lucky to see it happen in the Spring/Summer? I can only hope. |

Yup. It was a sham from the very get-go. |

The only areas of Chatham that have FTTN can only get as high as 15/1 and that is very limited. Most are 7/1 and 10/1. None of the VDSL packages are available yet. Yes, it is a sham, a big sham. |

just called Sales at Cogeco to confirm and they still have not been notified about an Ultimate 55 speed coming mid April, so I asked to speak to a Supervisor. The Supervisor told me that the front line will be made aware of it at the beginning of April and to not worry, the notices are correct. So, it is official Ultimate 30 to Ultimate 55 is real. |
