[IA] Slower speeds after purchasing SB6141

I purchased and provisioned a new SB6141 yesterday. No issues with getting up and running. However, since the change, I am now consistently seeing download speeds of 28-30 Mbps on speediest.net. Before with my Cisco, which I dumped due to other issues with dropping signals constantly, I would see speeds in the neighborhood of 70-105 Mbps. I'm on the Ultra Plan and should see 100-150. I believe I have the latest firmware. I contacted tech today, was told it would be 15+ minutes on the phone. So I went the live chat route, tech restarted my modem twice which of course did not help. They then suggested having a tech come out in a week. Anyone have other thoughts, suggestions or similar experiences after a modem change such as this. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi jeff63099, I can take a look at your modem signals for any irregularities. If you can dm me with your account or phone number I can get that pulled up and see what is going on with it.

I have a SB6180 and i have been seeing 30-40 here as well that last couple days, i have had my modem for over a year now though and i consistently saw 105, then they announced the upgrade to 150 and i started topping out at 70-80 a few days later, then no i'm even slower. I don't think its your modem honestly, i think its on their end. Has your area been upgraded to 8 channels on downstream yet?

One thing i will comment further though, the SB6141 is a very picky modem signal wise. If the signals are perfect it screams, but its not very tolerable to large signal level swings from what i have seen here with my customers that own them.

Goto 192.168.100.1 click on signal tab. How many boxes labeled Downstream/bonding channel value do you see?

Thanks for that speed test jeff63099, but I would need to see this information through a test like speedtest.net or speakeasy. I also have not received a pm from you.

Thanks! I did get your account information and it seems you're only bonding to 1 downstream channel at this time. I'll send you an IM with more information on getting this resolved.

I'm having a tech out next week when I get back. Hopefully it is a connection or a wire causing the problem. I will post an update.

I had the same problem about 6 months ago. In my case, it was due to not having digital cable TV... the filter was blocking cable modem channels needed to bond 4 or 8, depending on the modem. Fortunately, the tech who came out understood the problem and knew of a 2-step workaround to fix it: 1) he removed the filter to unblock the digital channels, and 2) he had a supervisor manually change a file that allowed my DOCIS 3 modem to bond 8 channels (not sure what file he meant, but probably my profile or provisioning file if there is such a thing). Anyway, with 8 bonded channels, I sustain high bandwidth through peak usage hours that used to slow me to a crawl. BTW, I started with a Motorola SB6141, which suffered frequent reboots, then I replaced it with a Zoom 5341J, which has remained rock solid.

Well seems a lot of us are having the same issue. I wondered about changing the modem to see what would happen but it has always been rock solid till a week ago. Figured it was a connection issue up the line so didn't worry about it much till now.

Technician was just here, took about 10 minutes. Removed a filter from the line at the box outside and then replaced all the fittings inside. Looks like 8 channels bonded and sped right at 100 Mbps

Getting even better. Looks like my problem is resolved. I'll see how it is tonight when traffic is high and see if I maintain.
