Wowway gouges ..... again ! Unbelievable ! Just opened my bill in Columbus Ohio only to find that Wowway has yet again jacked up the rates. What a rip-off ! I don't even have a cable box ! All i have is what my digital TV tuner will receive with the cable plugged directly in. My internet is 15/1. My bill for these services ? Now jacked to 128.88 a month ! A 16.29 increase from previous month ! Like others here, I'm not a sports fan so I do not watch any sports channels . Why should I be forced to pay more for them? Wowway claimed that providing local channel access was a contributing factor to the increase. I made the suggestion to the dork on the phone that maybe Wowway should consider perhaps adjusting THEIR base service charges down a bit to keep from having to constantly gouge the customers! Of course that will never happen. I am going to look at alternatives to Wowway. Paying 128.00 a month for overload of infomercials, some running simultaneously on multiple channels, stupid reality programming and just simply way too high pricing for what I get, just isn't sustainable anymore. I have a feeling however, that I'm going to find that there really is no great value from any provider of broadband internet access and cable or satellite TV service. Oh there are all the promotional offers out there but once they expire, you end up right back where you started .. paying exorbitant fees ! mad: in Columbus Ohio |

Something doesn't sound right. 15meg internet, and basic cable for $128/mo?!?!? Should be about half that. |

Here in Chicago land, basic cable + 15meg internet is $70 (plus tax/fees) per their website. |

Cable companies will charge whatever they think you will pay. Different areas can have wildly different rates, oh, and don't forget the promotional rates they give all the new customers only to charge their loyal customers higher prices to makeup for the shortfall. All the scum cable companies play the same dirty game so the only way to win is to dump everything except internet and get the rest over the air for free. When you consider the programming content vs what you pay for, IMO it is the only logical choice. |

After 12 months, it nearly doubles. Used to be if you complained, WOW would give you the promotional rate again. They no longer do this though, and instead tell you to cancel if you're unhappy with the pricing. |

Didn't realize that was promo pricing. That's pricey even for promo pricing!!!!
Yeah, I also have noticed more trouble negotiating with them. You used to be able to just call, and didn't even really need to ask, and they would take $20-$30 off your bill. Now you pretty much have to cancel service first.
WOW has gone down the $hitter. Very sad. Maybe we could move their cust serv reps to Comcast.
Edit: I checked the site again and I don't think the $70 is a promo. If I go to internet only, it scratches out the regular price and says $xx for 12 months. In the $70 package it doesn't say that at all. |

It sounds like you really only need limited TV, and no DVR. If that is the case, maybe look into getting one of those inexpensive HDTV antennas, and drop cable tv all together. I bought one from RadioShack for under $10, and plugged it in to my TV. Right off the bat I was able to pull in about 10 channels, and the HD picture was better than what I get over cable. With one of those $30 flat, leaf antennas I bet I could pull in close to 20 channels. FYI I'm about 30-35 miles from Chicago. And if WOW won't give you a good rate on internet only, see what competitors are in your area. |

Join the rest of us.....cut out cable TV and keep only internet. As you said, there is virtually NOTHING worth value on any of the cable TV channels. Get yourself an HD antenna and a receiver that you can plug it into and start saving $$$. Or keep bending over. The choice is yours. |

In the $70 package it doesn't say that at all. "Basic Cable + 2Mbps Internet + Essential Phone" $70.00/month, doesn't say promotional, but it is new signups only. Even U-Verse isn't that chintzy with bandwidth. 2Mbps isn't broadband. "Basic Cable + 15Mbps Internet " $70.00/month, doesn't say promotional, but also new signups only. Which doesn't get you jack for channels and doesn't include anything else. And no HD or digital at all. It's like a timewarp back to the 80's. "Digital TV Basic + 15Mbps Internet + Essential Phone" $85.00/month or $92.00/month with HD, strictly promotional. Only includes one SD STB (even if you go HD - HD boxes cost extra because they're very slightly newer.) Want just Internet? Yeah. Talk about a total ripoff. 15/1 is $20/month - for 12 months (or less) and then goes to $52/month 30/3 is normally $72/month. And 50/5 is $92/month. So that's +$1 per megabit meaning the allegedly coming (believe that when I see it) 110Mbit tier will cost at least $152/month. WOW also took back the "free" 15/2Mbit upgrade and it's 15/1Mbit again according to everything. Which is hilarious, because the 2Mbps service? Yup. It's allegedly 2/1. So the tiers are: 2/1, 15/1, 30/3, 50/5. For comparison, Time Warner's normal price for their 50/5 tier is $69.99/month and 15/1 is $39.99/month. Normal, not promotional pricing. (Promotional is -$5/month any tier for 12 months.) |

Ultra TV with Signature 15/1 internet 3 Media players, believe 2 free on promo plan til January 2016 Advanced Phone and of course the rental fees, the broadcast tv fee, and other charges Yeah that's crazy. I have everything you have minus the advanced phone and I'm paying $126 a month. Yes I even have three media players. Granted it's before my next bill which everyone is saying prices are going up. And in January my $15 discount ends. I should be close to $150 come next year for the same stuff I have now. And you always get two media players free. Well it's built into the cost of UltraTV. Any additional players are $9.00. My wife and I both have our own cell phones so we don't need a home phone. $95.00 - UltraTV Bundle (UltraTV Signature, Basic Cable, Internet 15/1) -$15.00 - Discounts $25.00 UltraTV Equipment $0.00 UltraTV Media Player $9.00 1 Ultra TV Media Player $4.50 Broadcast TV Fee $0.09 FCC Reg Fee $0.02 Ohio VSA Assessment Fee $2.56 Sales Tax $4.65 Franchise Fee |

So you have HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz. That's why you're paying so much more than me. I don't have those.
I don't feel the need to get those movie channels because anything I want to watch, I either see it on Netflix or I find it on the web somewhere to download. |
|
|
Yeah family won't subscripe to Netflix, and since I use Internet the most of anyone, they have me paying out of my disability money entire cable bill. Supposely they watch the premium channels, I usually spend my time watching a few shows here and there, Online gaming, or something. |

While I don't have Netflix, I have Amazon Prime. I haven't used any type of PPV service since 1991, back in the day when I got TV from one of those "big ugly dishes". I had Starz at one point but I dropped it because of too much repetition. It reminded me of the day I foolishly got HBO in college. I've got Encore as part of my package and not an add-on, as well as HD Net Movies. If there is a movie I want to watch and it's nowhere to be readily available, I download it off the web. |

In my market Encore is now a premium channel bundled with Starz. Used to be included in what here they call the Signature package (top tier). They took it away but didn't reduce the bundle price. No HD Net Movies offered at all. |
