Biazo2 join:2002-04-07 Bolingbrook, IL | Uncapping RCA modem on ATTBI?? I have an RCA dcm235 with ATTBI. Is it possible for me to uncap my speeds? I tried following what i saw at »www.surfboardhack.com but i couldnt find the name of my boot file. After runnning through docsdiag i found that ATTBI disabled SNMP, at least from the ethernet end. Has anyone had any experience or knowldeege of uncapping with a DCM235 modem? BTW, i know all the legal and whatever consequencecs blah blah, i just want to know if its possible. |

 | i guess it is doable but again is it really worth getting raped by bubba and attbi at the same time or just attbi.. -- I too was a attbi hater but now with this new service my connection is to slow to complain ... |

| reply to Biazo2 It is against the TOS. I know of people getting their service cut off for doing such things. There have been many posts in this section on doing this to cable modems, I suggest you do a search and read for yourself. -- Nightfall - »www.nightfall.net |

have you looked here? »homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.···ocsdiag/
Most cable modems should have SNMP active on the customer-side IP address of 192.168.100.1, and therefore ought to work with DocsDiag without the need for -cmip or -ubrip. But many brands of cable modem do not receive the requests from DocsDiag, because 192.168.100.1 is not on the same sub-net as the WAN IP address allocated to you by DHCP from your cable operator, so your PC routes the packets for 192.168.100.1 to the IP gateway address (head-end UBR), where they get lost.
Some specific brands of cable modem (e.g. Motorola SURFboard, 3Com Tailfin) take special action to sniff passing traffic from the user's PC, and intercept packets addressed to 192.168.100.1, so they appear to do the right thing even when the rules of IP routing are broken, but even this magic fails unless those cable modems have successfully connected to the cable operator's network. |

Nero534 join:2001-10-12 South Bend, IN | reply to Biazo2 It is not possible with the RCA modems. I have looked at the config file an all, and poked around with it. THE RCA MODEM IS NOT UNCAPPABLE dont waste your time trying
I can get to the point where u try to upload the docsis file with the TFTP server but the RCA mnodem WONT accept it. Its something you have to live with. That is ALL the information I will offer on this topic. |

Biazo2 join:2002-04-07 Bolingbrook, IL | reply to Biazo2 I ran through that page for docsdiag. I followed the procedure on the bottom and it tells me snmp is disabled. How else can i get docsdiag to work with the rca modem? apparently nero has. |

| If they have disabled snmp access to your modem(they can do that), then it looks like they are already trying to prevent any tampering with modems on their service in this nature. So you stuck...
So stop trying to steal from the service, and cancel the service if your not happy with it. If you don't want to cancel the service deal with it... -- When you don't listen to the White Hats, you eventually figure out you just made another Grey/Black Hat turn against you.... - BlitzenZeus |

!? Can I piggy back off another ATTBI account ?!? Instead of trying to uncap my speeds, can an ATTBI subscriber piggyback on another's cable modem uncapped/capped at about 8MB(down)/1MB(up)?!?

Biazo2: I've never used docdiag but what happens when you disconnect the coax leaving just the computer attached? Are you still able to run the app or does it require you to be connect to the isp? SNMP is being blocked by the ISP so cutting them out of the loop might help. This is only speculation of course. |

Biazo2 join:2002-04-07 Bolingbrook, IL | reply to Biazo2 Sonofajay, i tried thatalready . Docsdiag works when the coax is disconnected. Thats when it only works. According to the docsdiag page, snmp is disabled. If thats so, i dont see how i can uncap. But, nero claims to have gotten firther than me. |

 | reply to Biazo2 Biazo2, I have done research on uncapping modems (not that I would do it, or recommend doing it), and I am sorry to inform you that you will not be able to steal from ATTBI with the RCA Modem. It's been tried before in an experiment, and it will not work!! If you really want a faster service, go get a T - 3, or better yet, a OC - 3072 connection! LOL, not to be rude, but this really isn't the place to be talking about these kind of things. |

Biazo2 join:2002-04-07 Bolingbrook, IL | reply to Biazo2 Well ive made progress. I was able to downlaod the config file and i have looked at it. Docsdiag never worked, i used some other software. I havent tried uploading the config file or anything. One of my freinds is desperate to uncap so maybe ill try his and see if he gets cuaght. I still can't verify nero's claim of it rejecting the config file. If anyone is interested in how ive accomplished what ihave, feel free to email me. Biazo2@msn.com |
