Idiot Ping-Flooders!

I have JUST about had it with this idiot!

He has ping-flooded me last night, so I ping-flooded him back, now he's doing it again.. I reported him to his ISP, and everything, I even went to the max of posting his IP address on DSLR for my fellow OOL members could use there 1mbps upload to get this idiot back..

Than, he came on DSLR and says I am the one who started it!

I am too the point where, I feel like I am going to go to his house and cut his DSL line, he lives 2,000 miles away though in Texas!

guy's, what can I do to stop this ping flooding on my computer? I reported him with no avail, I even ping-flooded him back, and actually took him offline, since he has a 768 DSL Plan, and I have a 1000 Upload... Me and a couple OOL buddies got him back, than he comes on here and threatens all of us..

Thanks guys, my over question is HOW DO I STOP THIS NUT?

First off--NEVER 'fight back'. It's counter productive, and will, in my experience, never stop someone from attacking you.

Also, just because you reported him, it doesn't mean that the ISPs' abuse department has had time to deal with it. (assuming, of course, that they have one.)

Attacking him back won't help you any and could even backfire against you if your own ISP takes action against you.

OK thanks guys, but I posted about this in the OOL forum yesterday.. This guy is such a loser, he won't stop doing this, and I got in trouble for flooding him back last night, for about 10 minutes or so...

I think packet kiddies are funny. You're no better for doing it back. You're saying he packeted you offline? How? He's got 128kbps upstream, you have 10mbps downstream, doesn't seem likely. Unless he's a botnet kiddy...

In any case: m0rk's guide to avoiding/deflecting Denial of Service attacks...
1) Don't be an asshole.
2) Filter ICMP traffic/all inbound ports (to stop synflood)
3) Worse comes to worse, change your IP. (cycle modem, whatever)
4) If worse gets ultra worse, then go watch tv or find your dad's porn mag's. *wink*

5) Drastic measures: If after a few hours he doesn't get bored, take a nap, then you should contact your isp and ask them to filter icmp traffic at their end. Keep a log of the IP's you are getting packeted by, give the list to your isp.

Hope this helps.

Honestly,

You pingflooded a host and you're now complaining that this selfsame host is pingflooding you.

The reasons why you pingflooded him are irrelevant--you're just as guilty as he is.

Stop whining and reap the rewards of you and your OOL buddies' efforts.

No,

He pingflooded me first..

I ain't that stupid, I didn't even know how to ping-flood, until he started to do it too me, so I found a program to use..

Well forget that, I guess I'll just have to live with it unless I want to change my NIC, but that's another $30 out of my pocket..

I got packeted on DALNet a few days ago by some kiddy with a botnet. I lasted pretty long considering the amount of power he was packing, pissed him off like crazy. Of course he wasn't too smart. He pinged me by my hostname (mark.yi.org), so I simply changed it to point to his IP. Got a kick outta that one.

Re: Idiot Ping-Flooders!

It's a funny thing:

I've been 'online' in various forms since 1991 or so, and I have NEVER been 'attacked' in any manner whatsoever. No mail bombs, no pingfloods, no nothin'.

Those who get DoSed usually get DoSed for a reason, and those people get very little sympathy from ISPs and abuse departments--YOU are the CAUSE of the problem for their network, not the remote host.

Think long and hard on the benefits of you having pingflooded this guy: what did YOU get out of it in the long run?

Nothing actually, but I pay $$$$ for this service, I don't think I deserve to be pinged constantly by some nerd out west, who sits on the computer 24X7 doing nothing but wreck havoc on people..

This guy was my friend actually for like 2 weeks before we go pissed at each other.. I know him good..

Well TOMZ you have made more than one fatal mistake. He could report you just as you did him, but he has proof after your public bragging about knocking him off the net. Asking for help in this forum after what you have written is not showing good judgment, just like retaliation did not show good judgment.

I hate to be harsh, but I think you should turn off your computer and think about why you cannot deal with things like this like an adult. You may have infuriated this person and they made a poor choice, you on the other hand escalated the situation and then bragged about it on a public security forum read by thousands of people.

This nut cannot do anything to you when your machine is off -- that's my suggestion. You and your "OOL" buddies should think about how fortunate you have been to have such a great connection because according to your TOS you may not have it much longer

Well, if your ISP is lucky, and they ignore your whining long enough, maybe you'll disconnect and take your $$$ and go screw up someone elses' network.

From a service providers' point of view, it is *not* worth the money to supply service to someone who could potentially cause so many disruptions in service for other customers.

Whether or not you know or knew this guy, whether or not you 'started it', is irrelevant from the ISPs point of view--their network resources are being wasted, and YOU are the cause.

No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

OMG!

Why won't you listen to me?

I was asking how to stop this idiot..

I was going to just buy "Premium" membership, I'll think twice about it this time, because I hate being flamed by people who have nothing better to say..

Geez,
