IDE config question.

I need some advice here. I have my root hard drive on IDE channel 1 on my Asus P3V4X. I have a TDK CD-RW and a AOpen DVD on channel 2. I know for a fact that the DVD drive slows the burner down. I just installed a Maxtor PCI ATA100 card and put two Maxtor 40 gigs on channel 1 of the card. I am thinking of moving the TDK burner to channel 2 of the PCI ATA card. What do you think? I know I would have to change jumpers on the DVD drive to master since it will be the only drive on the IDE channel off the mobo. Will it screw up any of my hardware/software configurations?

Should work fine - just make sure the master/slave settings are correct on each drive. You can't really harm anything by trying that configuration...

But I can increase my performance of my CD-RW drive and be able to do 'on the fly' cd to cd-r copying now that they won't be on the same IDE channel.

Thanks

ABSOLUTELY!! What you are planning to do is the ideal configuration for on-the-fly CD duplication. Most people can't set it up that way because they don't have the IDE channels - by adding that PCI card you've opened things up nicely.

Have fun !!
