"It has come to our attention that the RadLight 3.03R5.2 (by Radlight) software intentionally tries to uninstall Ad-aware components from your system, without requesting your permission or knowledge.
After reports from concerned users, our tests have shown that the Radlight software indeed checks for the default Ad-aware installation path, and then removes
all files that are not currently in use, upon its first execution.
Until now, such a malicious behaviour was commonly known for viruses and trojans.
It does not slip through Ad-watch, or hides from the Ad-aware scanner, Radlight is not (yet) targeted by Ad-aware or Ad-watch.
It performs an silent uninstall of the Ad-aware components, including desktop shortcuts and startmenu items.
This is not a bug in the RadLight software, it is intentionally uninstalling Ad-aware, with the only purpose to make your system attainable for further malware installation.
And af this wasn't enough, the Radlight software is bundled with WhenU's SaveNow software, a well known data mining company. If Ad-watch is running, it will correctly prevent the installation of Savenow.
If neither Ad-aware or Ad-watch is active, they both will be uninstalled through the Radlight software upon its first execution.
A fix is in progress, and we feel its necessary to add Radlight to the AAW target list. This is malware at it worst.

| that is absolutely APPALLING. first of all, i don't know much about radlight but it's probably installed without the user's knowledge/consent, and then to INTENTIONALLY uninstall *another* company's software without the user's knowledge/consent...is that even legal? i mean, the tds-3 issue was one thing, cos at least it was tds uninstalling its own software but this is a whole other story...
oh, i just googled 'radlight' and came up with a divx player- is this the same radlight? if so, why would a divx player need to uninstall ad-aware? so peculiar. |

I don't know much about the legal side of it, but I suspect it isn't.

It might be the one in question, but I guess that will become clear soon enough when you attempt to launch Ad-Aware...
Why it does it, I don't know. Maybe to protect the spyware bundled with it, I presume. |

By default Ad Aware location, do you mean:
Default Adaware or Adaware Plus location?
And if both, could I re-install Adaware or Adaware Plus in an unusual location, say, under the Adobe, or Corel directory?

LOL, Thanks for the laugh, I guess everyone is upset about this, Seeing it's a company no one cares about, seems almost the same method TDS -3 wanted to use and people were supporting that.
The people at the WSF forum just kill me, SPY1 is talking about suing, but just a few weeks ago he completely support the ideal as long as Wayne did it.

At least Wayne was talking about his own program, not about someone else's.
I know, Vampirefo, anything that comes from the WSF forum is by definition suspect, as far as you're concerned, even if it's just a quote from the Lavasoft board, and deep down I know there's nothing I can do to change that.

I agree with angeldivax. This is absolutely appalling. Companies are now trying to target the security conscience consumer. Removing the tools for spyware detection probably will not affect the truly security conscience as we will be able to detect and correct the problem.
So we have virus that can remove AV progs, and now spyware that can remove anti spyware progs. What's next?

Considering it's predatory and malicious behavior, I imagine other anti-spyware developers will also add this thing to their target lists out of self-defense.

that other issue was with a developer using his own product to do what it does. In this case, it is a media player which makes no mention anywhere that it is going to remove any software, let alone our software.

As you know TD3-3 was not uninstalling another company's product. I don't think SPY1 would agreee that is ok either. Your bias is showing and says more about you than anything else!
