Many filter features do not work in BEFW11S4 v1

I am unable to disable many features in the filter section such as block WAN request, IPsec pass through, etc. When I attempt to disable these features I get the password pop up but it does not accept my passord or any other password.

Copy down your sign in name and password for your ISP, then reset the router and set it up again.

The only password I have for my ISP is my e-mail password and it doesn't work. Any other ideas?

He means to hard reset your router and use the default password to set it back up.

The default password for the router is: admin
Do not enter a user name. If you changed the password at some point and cannot remember, or if the password somehow was corrupted, hold the reset button for several seconds. This "loong reset" will clear any setting changes that you've made and return the default parameters, including the password of admin.

If all else fails, change your password to nothing. Literally nothing.

I have reset my machine reflashed 3 times. I can get into the firmware and do everything except change the setting in the filter section such as disable Ipsec, etc. As stated when I click disable and hit apply the password menu appears and not matter what I put in it will no accept it. If i go back to an earlier version of the firmware I have no problems.

What is with linksys firmware everybody has different problems.
1. Some people can not use MSN messenger at all while others can only use it with hardwired connections and not the wireless connection.
2. Some have problems with FTP while other don't.
3. I have problems with disabling features while others don't.
Conclusion: Either linksys has a poor flashing method for it routers. The routers are too tempermental or there are compatiblity problems with various hardware setups, or the one most likely the beta is definitely not ready for release.

Don't forget that routers, TCP/IP routing & packet filtering is somewhat complex for the uninitiated. Maybe lack of knowledge should be added to the list. I bet it accounts for the majority of complaints.

Don't worry I am not one of the uninitated and I know about filtering and how it is done. I can do it on earlier firmware but I am unable to do it with the beta firmware. If people believe that is because I don't know what I am doing so be it!

Hi Kawipoo;

I didn't mean to say that you personally were not 'in the know'. All I meant was that routers & TCP/IP & Packet Filtering are concepts that not all are familiar with. As a result there's lot's of identical posts for the same problems with some experiencing success & others not.

I don't think it has anything to do with firmware. If there's identical systems with identical firmwares and some have success with a problem and others don't - it's likely the user. I think that in the volume of posts you'd probably find that firmware bugs are in the minority and that lack of knowledge would be the majority.

Having said that - I've seen bugs and know that there are still bugs in the LinkSys firmwares. In one of your posts you mentioned that you were wondering why everyone has different problems with LinkSys firmwares. User knowledge was something I thought should be added to it - maybe as number 4

Beta that is ready for release = final product.
