Am I the only one down in LA?

My Sprint Business DSL has been down from about 11:00am (and is still down), so it's going on a half day now. I was advised that this was a regional problem with no ETR - is this true or have others received the same response? Or, am I the only one who is down?

I'm not overly distressed since I use DSL as a backup for my leased line, I still have my PacBell business DSL connection handling that and I'm still on my 45 day trial period with Sprint, but I am disappointed so far with several things about this particular Sprint service.
- an outage this long could really hurt a business that is using DSL as their primary means of connectivity. Hopefully, this was a fluke.
- as mentioned elsewhere, tech support/trouble desk is on a weekday only schedule - this is unacceptable.
- it appears my gateway is in Stockton?
- my install ended when the tech confirmed a connection was possible with his laptop and he walked out the door right after that. This wasn't a major problem but based on the install e-mail I got, I was supposed to (and did) have a machine for the installer to connect and expected he could have waited until I hooked up that machine to at least confirm I had a working connection.
- couldn't get info from the installer such as what the distance was for this Sprint circuit (I'm 6,000 feet away on my PacBell circuit); what the specs were at the MPOE and how they compared to what I have here in the office.

So far, a rocky start with Sprint, but I'm willing to give them some time to get their act together.

1. I am in LA (through PacBell's Wilshire/LaBrea CO), and in service. I have been in-service all weekend and all Monday. I did have a problem at 9pm Friday for a few minutes.

2. Like others, I was used to Sprint ION's 24/7 support. I was surprised by the no weekends, not even one shift, support.

3. Your gateway is probably not in Stockton, it is probably in Rialto, routed through Stockton, since this routing seems similar to ION's. My ping times are faster to San Jose than LA -- but they are faster than the old ION pings.

4. The Sprint Biz DSL support can probably tell you your circuit distance over the phone.

Thanks for the info! I'm out of LA06 and I see RIA in the device name, so Rialto is a good possibility.

Just got off the phone with Sprint and after being talked through a 'from scratch' reconfiguration of the router that didn't solve the problem, they've scheduled a truck roll with a router (Zyxel 642R) replacement being the possible fix. Hopefully, this will do the job.

I had a modem die last week, so I know the drill. I now make sure the modem/ router goes only into a UPS... since it seems that was potentially one of the problem sources.

I am at LASANCA10 -- we are both in relatively dense areas with old wire and complex cables.

I'll bet you have a PacBell problem -- but it could be the router. I had BOTH problems simultaneously last week.

Final outcome - there was an outage in California (how much of the state, they didn't say) yesterday that required replacing a piece of hardware (router?) that was restored/reconfigured using a data backup from 3 weeks back. Since my install was just 2 weeks ago, my profile was not a part of this new, just restored configuration. After trying the new router they brought with still no connection, the techs called in to the NOC where they rebuilt my account. So my Sprint circuit is once again functional.

Any change in speeds / pings with the rebuilt account?

Did the say when the outage occured -- like Friday at about 9pm?

Average ping to my gateway in Rialto (tech said they do have a facility there and that's what he thought is where my gateway is) is now 20ms; up from a 6ms average previously. No apparent change in speed - my router reports I'm connected at 3264K down and 704K up. Right now, I'm interested more in stability then performance. Anything above 1.5M down/384K up is acceptable for now; my PBI DSL is 4.5M/384K, but at almost twice the price. Although, I do have a full class C with PBI and the Cayman router seems to hold a connection much better then the Zyxel 642R.

I wasn't notified of an outage on Friday; only the one on May 6 (Monday). I monitor all of my connections from both the inside looking out and from the outside looking in (using a combination of ServersAlive and VisualPulse on several different servers in separate locations; LA, SFO, Kansas and Texas) - I get alerted when a connection is down for more then 5 minutes.

I'll be leaving for Vegas tomorrow for a long weekend (Thursday-Sunday), so this will be an informal test to see how this connection runs unattended.
