Re: Don't cut Nintendo out yet...

Its never hard to make a loud gas-guzzling antique of a car stand out. Now when GM finally wises up like the rest of the domestic manufacturers and starts making efficient small displacement motors maybe they wont stand out AS MUCH. But you'll still be staring at the taillights of my "bumblebee" Acura as fly right by.
But back to the point .... I love Nintendo, and have since the NES days. But they haven't had any truly respectable market penetration strategies since then. They realize that they have a core market who will always buy Nintendo(like myself)and will guarantee them profit. But this could be construed as a step in the right direction. Meaning attracting non-Nintendo supporters. PS2 will still run the market, but X-box and GC will be fighting it out for 2nd. And thats just my take on the situation.

I agree with some and disagree with some of You. The only reason at this point in time that the PS2 is beating the xbox is because it has a ENTIRE year head start of game developers on its side. Once the xbox expands its game library, it will beat the PS2 in the long run no matter what. The PS2 can only accomplish so much performance without u haveing to FORK over 100 bucks every 2 months for upgrades. Dont get me wrong. Sony was very smart, because they made alot of ports for extras to be added, liek a hard drive, and Ethernet Port, extra memeory and much more stuff that is still in devolpment, liek Graphics expansion, sound, maybe even CPU boost, But they did this to make more money off You. The Xbox includes all these for the same price as the PS2. so i know it is not to expensive to add these and sell for 299. Plus the xbox parts are much more expensive becuase they are twice as fast. the fact of the matter, u will have to Pay out your Pockets big time for these upgrades. When u can buy a Xbox for the same price as a basic PS2. Xbox comes with all that stuff. 10 gigs, dvd player liek the PS2 (xbox needs remote to work $30), ethernet for broadband Gaming. But the harddrive that will be coming out for the PS2 is liek 100 bucks. What a rip off. ANd as far as modem or ethernet for PS2, i am sure will be like 40-60 for those. The Xbox outclasses the ps2 performance by almost double. I mean damn. Look at the games. U can totally tell. xb0x = 733 mhz, ps2 is 294 mhz. xb0x = Geforce3 graphics with clock speed of 250 mhz. PS2 = integrated graphics synthizer with a clock speed of 147 MHz. That is a big performance difference. Here is a link to a site that shows u all 3 compared Hardware Wise. »users.wiredcity.com.au/~plok/gam···ecs.html As far as Nintendo,There system is even stronger then the PS2, but They havent made any games for teens and OLDER since SNES. ALl the Nin64 games were KID games. Seems like they are sticking with that so far. The only thing i have seen so far that nintendo has releases for its new console that isnt Kid games is some sports game. Thats it. ALL in ALL, once the xbox teams up with more game makers, they will make both the PS2 and gamecube Look foolish for even tryin to compete. And once the xbox goes online this ssummer, It will leave them all in the dust.

I'm sorry, I couldn't read this post without posting a rebuttal. Please don't take this as a personal attack, as it is not. The common belief that Nintendo only makes games for youngsters is one of the oldest, most propagated mistruths among gamers and non gamers alike. You stated that the N64 had only "kid" games made for it when any true gamer remembers the system for games like the Turok series, Goldeneye, Conker, and, well I won't sit here and name off any of the hundred other "M" rated games released on the system. What perplexes me is that even though titles like Sesame Street, Rugrats, Mary Kate and Ashley and many sequels of all of the aforementioned were common staples on the PSOne and not the N64, the PSOne was never called a "kiddy" system-why is that! As for Gamecube only having games for youngsters, what games are you referring to? The few that they do have are all ports of PS2 games! Even the cartonny looking Smash Brothers game is "Teen" rated. As for the Xbox being the "end-all-be-all" of online gaming, Electronic Arts just announced that this year's John Madden online football game is going to be a PS2 exclusive, due to Microsoft's master-slave attitude when it comes to third party companies having online games on their console. Sony's(as well as Nintendo's) stance is that the individual publishers can/should run their own servers for their online games. All online games for Xbox must be served thru Microsoft, which has brought up some privacy issues, among others. This is definitely not good news at all for the Xbox. The Gamecube has Phantasy Star Online pts 1 & 2-enough said, as I(as well as many others)have wasted a many an hour playing this title. I also personally like how Nintendo has decided not to punish those who can't get any form of broadband by making both 56k and ethernet adaptors for their system. Online gaming for consoles isn't the holy grail some people make it out to be. Did it save the Dreamcast? Does anyone even remember Sega Saturn Netlink? X-band? Do you see a pattern here?

I do hear where you are coming from. But the ratio of Kidz games compared to 18+ games are about 3to1. Ys, they had turok, James bond, hmmmm, what else,?? Sports games can be for anyone wich i mentioned, so we will leave those out of the Ration. but over all, Nintendo bases there consoel and most of the games on a younger audiance. That is my opinion and i am not stateing a facts because i am not gonna waste time finding numbers. But that is what i have seen from nintendo since The orginal one.
