BS *did* stop new IFITL development. IFITL != DFITL (which is what they are calling the new "card swap for fastaccess without cable tv" systems).

Right now, they're trying to figure out which vendor to use for the cards that will live in the ONU's, since Marconi isn't in that business anymore. Alacatel seems to be their preferred vendor, but everyone knows Ma Bell, this could take a LONG time.

I heard BellSouth is discontinuing IFITL development. I don't know the full story on that but I think they are trying to find some other way to utilize the fiber in their 9 state areas for internet. I think that if a fiber optic telephone isn't being used for internet access, it's a big waste .

I dunno about pipe dream. I'm in BellSouth land, where most new developments in the last 5 years have FTTC. Problem is, for most, it's only used for vox service. If they ever figure out what they are gonna do with it, there will be an influx of folks wanting to know all about expanded FO capabilities/technologies etc. But that is a big *if* the service ever goes live. Only time will tell.
