saber11Check SixPremium join:2000-06-09 Clayton, OH | It looks like the Army needs a few good webmasters, the site is VERY VERY VERY VERY SLOW!! I did manage to get to their screenshots page but could only get one shot to open.
I did fill out the order form to get a FREE CD of the game, but if you can endure the slow site you can download it. Looks pretty cool, and multiplayer too. -- ---"Gadget Bent"--- |

The webpage is working much better now. This game looks like it's gonna be cool. Under the downloads section they will post a Server version.
I hope it will be like CS where you can be on either side in multiplayer. Just out of curiosity my guess is if you cheat in this game do they send you to Levenworth? -- ---"Gadget Bent"--- |

The game looks kinda cool. Of course since I'm not living in USA I can't get a copy. Guess that prevents computer wielding terrorists in foreign countries to train US style. ;(

I wonder if the US Army bought into the crap that some Senators were saying a few years ago. Playing FPS train you in the use of a gun. Bah!
The game does look good though. There was even a story on it on CNN. »www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/ptech/05/2···dex.html -- Destroy the Autobots! |

I don't get it, just doesnt add up, making a first person shooter in hopes for people to join? There has to be more to this than what they're saying. This is just too Bizare, Hard to believe the Army would whaste resources to train personel to sit there and Code a 3d game. Also last time I went to the ARMY recruiter I didn't see Game programmer on their brosure. |

Developed using the latest version of Epic Games' Unreal Engine® and optimized for NVIDIA GeForce2® graphics processors, Operations features 20 single and multiplayer missions. Training missions build player capabilites -- from navigating Fort Bennings obstacle course to parachute drops in preparation for assignment to the 82nd Airborne Division. Multiplayer missions are played free on a virtual playing field online with web servers hosted by HomeLAN.

Re: America's Army Well, based on the cnn article it looks like a non-standard recruitment effort. NBD. I spent 4 years in the Army, enjoyed it, won't go back, but it was worth it. But to be honest, I don't see how playing an army oriented game is going to drive up recruitment?

Ok guys. I learned this from my cousin in Military intelligence, but I'll share with you all.
The game is embedded with a monitoring software that tracks your killing abilities, your hits scored, your tactics, and your likelihood of survivability. It then compares these to a massive database of players and sends a list of the top thirty players to military intelligence.
Those players will then be enlisted (if they wish) into a new special cyber training and tactics division in which they will get to train Navy Seals, and after going through the grueling training process, become Navy Seals themselves.

Technically, the new UT2003 engine is called the Unreal Warfare engine, but yes, it uses the same engine as UT2003.
To make a long story short, the reasno they're doing this is to appeal to the Army's prime demographic, 16-25 year olds (which is roughly the same demographic shared by most computer gamers). They set out to create something that would rival a $50 boxed product, but that would be free, in order to raise the level of interest in the current batch of potential recruits. -- Join one of DSLR's Distributed Computing teams! |

It's called advertising. It works depressingly well. The average human is a sheep.

Do you have any idea how big military budgets are? It probably cost between $2 and 6 million to produce, which is almost nothing to the military.
I talked to one of the reps at E3 (they're the guys in camo, the girls in camo are the booth babes for the Soldat game ). The game is supposed to emphasize operating as a unit and prevent people from acting stupid (he said something about your character being put in "jail" if you PK your teammates). Moving as a team and using tactics are things that are very valuable to the military.
According to the rep. it actually pays attention to the way weapons are supposed to work (sniper rifles have bipods or tripods if appropriate, I would assume that weapon performance is based on ballistics data rather than being set up to make gameplay fun).
Of course, if the truth of the matter comes out, it'll turn out to be that someone thought it would be really cool and it became an important person's pet project. -- Fault tolerant? Sure it's fault tolerant! It's always the system's fault and people keep tolerating it! |
