| LINK Central reference listThe original thread (found here: LINK CENTRAL for Security Programs ) started by RDionysus generated mega accolades. His first post alone scored 5 thumbs up almost instantly! This post is my attempt to consolidate many of the additions from other posters while weeding out some of the extraneous stuff that I and others got sidetracked with. I have tried to preserve credits for every poster. Please add to this thread with any additional links to build on what RDionysus started for us. If you have evaluations or additional questions on some of the products or links contained here, please start an NEW discussion topic to preserve the reference nature of this list. THANX!!Kent/V7Goose ___________________________________________________________ RDionysus LINK CENTRAL for Security Programs There are so many different threads going on right now pertaining to Anti-Trojan, Anti-Virus, Spyware, Adware, General security, packet sniffers, what programs to use, what sites to visit....!?!!??!? This humble post simply attempts to cull some of the redundancies in the various threads, and centralize some of the information. Some of the information/links in here has been extracted from many other great posts around the DSLR security forum; much of it has been from my own every-day surfing, and the rest from hackers and computer gurus (much more knowledgeable than me) here at my company. So without further ado, a little list of links I hope will provide many with convenience and ease:

V7Goose join:2000-09-06 Colleyville, TX | Well, everyone - I tried to redo this, but I don't think it preserves the original flavor of what RDionysus did. I made several attempts at editing it (looked good in HTML), but these little edit windows are just too limited in the capabilities (or maybe I am).
I think we should just dump this poor attempt and keep using the original. At least there, everyone gets fair credit for what they contributed - it is all lost here. Kent -- - Da Goose man - "Hey, I've got my reasons for what I'm doing, and I sure hope I think of them pretty soon!" |

A dandy idea... I'm going to build a web page. I also have a hosted web site, so as soon as I finish it up, I'll post the URL. My plan is to give visitors the option to download the whole list or just click on links. I'm also thinking through a way to have moderated new submissions added. Not sure about that one yet, but I'm working on it!
I'll post here once I've got the work done & posted. -- --- The Mark of the Beast: vi vi vi |

| reply to V7Goose Goose! My hat's off to you. You did a GREAT job re-consolidating the list, adding the other contributed links, and reposting. Hopefully, Humphrmi gets a nice page done (or if he gets tired, he'll let me know and I'll take a stab) and it'll grow as time goes on. Meanwhile, everybody keep posting new choice links! | reply to V7Goose I added 01/21/2001: Page was down, back up now. Still working on the posting mechanism (cgi problems) but will probably have that worked out by tonight. Enjoy!
Hello,
If there is still interest in a web page devoted to these links, I have put one up at http://www.famille.org/SecLinks . There are still a few links I haven't posted yet, but I'd say 90% of them are in place.
This site allows for sections, credit to submitters (or complete anonymity), new submissions, and discussion of the links.
ONE WORD OF WARNING: Just as a matter of happenstance, as I finished setting this up, I got word from my ISP that my DNS is ready to be transferred for famille.org from a hosted site to my server via DSL. So, sometime tonight or tomorrow, this page will go down. It will reappear at the same address after I get all the kinks worked out. I intend to keep this going as long as there is interest in it and as long as nobody tells me I have to stop.
Bear in mind, any discussion on that page should be only related to the links contained therein; I do not intend to compete with the content on DSLReports, and if it starts to become that I'm sure folks here will not be happy with me.
Aside from those two caveats, check it out and ENJOY. -- --- The Mark of the Beast: vi vi vi -- --- The Mark of the Beast: vi vi vi [text was edited by author 2001-01-21 17:11:02] |

 | Ahh, I see that this site is finally up and I will enjoy using it as a handy set of bookmarks. I hope people will continue contributing links, as there are always plenty of good ones suggested by the folks around here. Great work on the site! |
|
 | humphrmi,
All I would suggest is maybe a brief description (one line?) beside each link so that people would have an idea of what is at each site?
Otherwise, it is an exceptional idea and I hope DSLR can either mirror or adopt your idea into the confines of DSLR itself.
Thumbs to you! -- And now, back to your regularly scheduled thread already in progress... |

Yes, I went back and forth about that and finally decided to just retain the information that was put in the (repost) message. I can update that information, though.

Yeah, I hope they do, because they have a much better interface & engine than do I. Mine is a hack based on someone else's CGI code that's not even Y2K compliant (as some of you may have seen.)

Oops, guess I could of covered this in my last post. Yes, this won't be so hard to do (although I'll have to do it in CGI, and as of now I still don't have that working yet on my new site.) I'll add this in soon. -- --- The Mark of the Beast: vi vi vi |

humphrmiPremium join:2000-12-21 Skokie, IL | reply to V7Goose Everyone (who's using this link site...):
Apparently in the process of fixing my MX DNS record, my ISP *broke* my A record. This means that (as I have just learned,) the links central site was down for a while in the last few days.
I can't be sure that it's up, because from home I have a direct route to the server. If I shut off the DNS that gives me that direct route, I also shut off my DNS forwarders. LSS: I have no way to be *sure* that the URL is up.
So, if it's not too much to ask, could someone test it out and let me know? Just send me an instant message if you try it and it works or doesn't work. I just need to know if more ISP beatings are necessary.
With this out of the way, I should have the cgi scripts to contribute working in a day or so.
Cheers! -- --- The Mark of the Beast: vi vi vi |

Anon | reply to V7Goose Just happened to come across this site today and thought it would be a good resource for a lot of members here. They have a lot of security free/sharewares (some of the ones named above) available for download. They also have informative reviews on most of the stuff there, which definitely helps in sorting out between the gazillions of apps available now days! Anyway,I think it worth the stop.
