| eDonkey Guide For All First off you need to d/l the donkey
Get it here:
eDonkey
Install the donkey, make sure to choose NOT to install UCMORE when prompted for install selection as seen in FIGURE 1.
Next you should configure your donkey.
Start up your donkey and click OPTIONS.
Under User Name ¡V Choose any name you like
Under Max Download Speed (A) choose your max d/l speed / 8
In other words if your capable of speeds such as 768/128 your download speed for the donkey would be 768/8 which would equal 96
So A = 96
Your max upload speed (B) will automatically be established by the donkey after you fill in your d/l speed and close out of options. For 96 d/l you will probably get 10 u/l.
Line Speed down (C) in my opinion should be set to the same as (A) so in this case it would be 96.
Put Incoming Files and Put Temporary Files will have automatic defaults, you can change them to whatever you like but must do it before starting any downloads.
Max Connections should be set between 2500 and 5000, try different combinations and see what you get. I usually keep mine at 4500.
The only options which should be UNCHECKED in the top right are :
Save corrupt files
Verbose
Now click ok and you done.
The key to the donkey is to keep it well fed
The best place to update your servers in my opinion is :

Now the donkey by itself is okay as a P2P but if you want to have the best P2P (IMHO) based on ease, file availability as well as knowing that you will get what you want and you want get fake or incomplete or stripped copies of whatever your d/l'ing (as you find on Kazaa and Winmx) then you have to combine the donkey with one of these sites:

Most of these sites also have very helpful forums and links to other sites which are also very helpful.
FAIR WARNING
Most of these sites are loaded with popups so get a popupstopper if you don¡¦t have one.
My favorite popup stopper is Free Surfer.
Very easy to use and can be set to different levels of strictness. Also prevents browser startpage hijacking and will even clear your temp, cache and cookies.

Some tips :
You should defrag the drive where your temp d/l files from eDonkey reside. It will help the Donkey hash your files faster. eDonkey "hashes" files which allows it to recognize only genuine files and not just files which are falsely named.
Sometimes when d/l files you get to the very end and it will stop d/l. This can be very annoying. Heres the trick. You can do either of these: right click on the file, pause the d/l, wait a minute and then resume the d/l, or you can shut the donkey down and start it up again.
ALWAYS read the .info files.
Delete all servers which are inactive and use the Maurice Server listed above to get new ones.
As I think of more I will continue to add. Also fell free to post anything I may have missed. I chose not to discuss the eDonkey Bot simply because I fell it really doesn¡¦t add anything to the Donkey experience. Feel free to post about it though.

This allows the dl and upload to keep going as servers switch, and if theres a disconnect for some time it will keep all files going in both directions:)

to further something you touched on. sometimes you'll download a file that you will see has transferred more than the actual file total (for instance, a 699.22mb file that shows 721.23mb in transferred). this happens when you've downladed corrupted parts that edonkey has detected and automatically dropped. if the bar loooks relatively filled and the download is completely stalled, that means that most likely you have a corrupted part somewhere in that download. pausing/resuming won't work and you'll have to quit the program and force edonkey to re-hash the file to see where the corruption is.
also, for fool-proof server maintenance, go get edonkeybot lite - it'll automatically update your server list every 8 hours or so (deleting those inactive), and will even monitor your throughput. if it senses that you've been downloading less than a certain kb/sec over X time, it'll automatically close edonkey and start it back up for you.
if you're away from your computer alot when you download (or go after your big files while asleep), the bot will help you immensely - »www.file-finder.com

i tried it before it was shut down and thought it was fine but after shutdown i noticed my donkey actually ran better without it.
i tried the new one briefly and didnt notice any difference, perhaps i didnt test it thoroughly enough. would you share your experience with it?

right off the bat it won't add an extra 10kb/sec to your downloads, but it does have the 'oh crap what happened' protection built-in for newbies and for experienced edonkey users.
the best features of the bot are the ones i mentioned above. edonkeybot lite's server update feature is the best i've seen and works really well. for more advanced users, you can also have it add a list of your own specified servers on top of the one it downloads from the internet. for me, i've noticed that none of the huge Korean servers are on any other list, so i've added them to be updated in a seperate file once it checks the main list.
also, the donkey restart feature is a godsend for those who always slow down in speed the last 10mb of your download.

I've been downloading primarily from Sharereactor.com
Today I tried to download from the other sites mentioned here but eDonkey is not picking up the files the way it does when I click on files to download in Sharereactor.
Does something special need to be done to make this work?
(if it matters, I've got some downloads running off of Sharereactor while trying to download from the other sites)
Actually....not even downloads from Sharereactor are working...
Have some nice download speeds right now (115k) but I suppose I'll reboot and see what happens...

well...restarted eDonkey....and NOW, it's sometimes opening up a new eDonkey session for every file that I click to download.
sometimes it does nothing...
me thinks I hosed my eDonkey...

| Brroklyn..i would suggest to you to not have to many downloads going on at once. When you do that it will slow all your downloads. I usually do one movie at a time. Yesterday and today i am getting great speeds..downloaded 2 movies..one 700 megs and one 800 megs in one day and overnight. I would put some of your downloads on pause if i was you and leave one that is popular and getting good speeds on .
