Anyone know what's the story wit Cox? I try callin em and waited for like 45 min on the lines then gave up, then i sent them an email and no reply yet. This is drivin me nuts cuz I'm gettin major lag when playin online games. I can recall that this problem started happening roughly on the week of may 27 if it helps.

A max ping of 78ms in that plot hardly looks like anything to whine about, unless you use ping as sole justification for any situation in which you get the crap beaten out of you in a game.

It does me no good when playin online games if it ain't consistent. I get brief moments with a ping of >100 when playin games online then it to jump to 500 then jumps back down. This happens repeatedly.

Hmm, your tech support isn't good at all where you live. 45 minutes is way too long to wait to talk to a real person.

Why don't you tell us where in Southern California you live. Better yet, register as a member of DSLR

I'm getting a sweet route through Cox.net to Orange County. A few days ago they had me routed from 1.Ocala, FL, 2.Atlanta, GA, 3.Hampton Roads, VA, 4.Road Island, 5.Omaha, NE, 6.Las Vegas, NV, 7.Orange County, CA

Today is much better, 1.Ocala, FL, 2. Atlanta, GA, 3.New Orleans, LA, 4.Dallas, TX, 5.Phoenix, AZ, 6.Las Vegas, NV, 7. Orange County, CA. Much more direct route.

This guy has to be kidding. Those are definitely not pings worth complaining about. Especially when you compare them to what I get.

Now THIS is one that you should be raising hell about at your local office. You might also want to send an IM to member COX_ENDER here at BBR (a Cox tech investigating these things) pointing him to this posting, or at least giving him the ID/IP of the point and telling him of the times you're getting to it. 23% packet loss with an average latency of over 2 seconds! Now that's beyond NASTY!

Strange, it looks fine from across the country, but is just pretty darn bad from where you are. Wonder what causes that...

Sjet i wish there would be consistent pings too. I remember on Cox@Home when i pinged www.yahoo.com ,etc it was a consistent ping of 60ms or less. Sometimes it may go to 61 or 65 ms but never higher. It was a whole lot more consistent. Thats how its on dsl i know. But i saw it with my own eyes the consistent pings on Cox@Home. Heck even OOL users get consistent pings. I am just saying its possible to get consistent pings when the network is really good, etc.

BTW just to prove my point more that you can get consistent pings on a really good network here is proof.
This is speakeasy dsl btw

This was a image posted by someone in »COX HSI problems, NOVA Only pease, page 7 it should bring you too then look for the name cobra86. Those are very consistent pings.

Just to let you know i am not trying to prove anyone wrong or be mean i am just showing how it is possible.

The latency problem did get worse when @home went down and cox took over. It never did get any better so I went with SBC on there dsl for $20 a month for the first 3 months deal and gaming has never been better.

Sjet,

Those pings look like something's wrong. if you can give me your email address. I can go ahead and take a look at the issue.
