Why am I getting slower speeds? 450kb download

I'm with Cox Express in the Ocala/Gainesville market. I've got a new coax run into my home office from the input cable, and connecting to a SMC Barricade firewall.

I've run dslreports.com speed tests and made all the recommended tweaks. I've disabled virus scanning (temporarily), I've connected my 900mhz Pentium laptop w/256mb RAM running W2K directly to the Toshiba 2000 cable modem, and the best I get is 450kb download and 128kb upload.

I check other speed tests in my area and they are getting 1,500kb downloads. While I realize each is slightly different, are these speeds the best I can get?

I'm on the basic cable modem plan which advertises 1500kb/128kb.

Hmm, Northeast Ocala here, getting 1500/128 consistently. Strange, maybe Raydr can help you out. By chance could you post a line quality test here for observation?

I did a line quality check and here's what came up:

»/quality/nil/780429

Can you help me interpret it? I'm in Ocala a few blocks from Ocala Christian Academy...

Ahh, I know that area, SE 36th AVE area. The line quality looks good, latency looks good. Try going to »atl.speakeasy.net/ and running the speedtest there and post the results. My experience has been that the west coast servers report horribly slow speeds for us Cox Express users.

What a difference - it shows 1,421 down and 124 up!

Guess I don't have a problem!

Thanks for all the help in figuring it out.

Blessings!
