You can save yourself some money and just have them run the 1st outlet to a room. Then after they leave run the other outlets yourself.

However, there maybe one drawback. If you have a problem with one of the outlets that you ran yourself, they'll probably charge you a service fee. Most providers only accept responsibility for the outlets they installed. Normally the service if would be the normally price of a install fee.

Hi Macbeth,

I assume your the Macbeth from Floyd County, Indiana. When Insight offers cable modem service in new areas, I recall they offer free installation. I assume they will offer free installation for a month or two for Floyd County, Indiana.

Good luck MacBeth

This may be different in other systems, but here in Louisville, KY, this is how it works...

The cable tech will run the cable from the tap, or check the existing cable to make sure it is in good repair. They will install a ground block (a splitter which houses a tuned circuit to cut back on feedback from the TV's which can interfere with the upstream to the cable modem). They will run the cable inside your house to wherever you want the cable modem to sit. If the place that you want the modem to be causes the tech to have to wall fish cable through a wall or something of that nature, they will advise you of an additional fee. They will set up the modem, plug it in, and get that modem in sync. Soon a data tech will show up and sit down at the computer and insure your IE and OE are versions 5.5 or later and they will insure the computer has a working NIC or USB port for the modem. They will insure the computer is pulling a 10.14.x.x or 10.15.x.x IP which will allow them to register your computer on the SAS Registration site (12.223.2.8). After registration they will reboot your computer, and then browse to the help.insightbb.com website and there you will have complete picture by picture walk through on how to set up your e-mail, how to manage your accounts, etc..etc..etc..

Yes INSIGHTbb.com understands that many of you would rather have a self installation option, however, INSIGHTbb.com had tried that before when they where *cringe* @home. The problem INSIGHT ran into was that some people did not understand or where unable to follow directions. Many people did not have their PC's in good repair, such as an OS may have been loaded on a machine for 3 years and not once had the HDD been defrag' or any type of Windows clean up program applied. You can imagine I'm sure.

situation:
i live in columbus, in. the tech came in, I had it sitting on the insightbb reg page, I typed in all of the above and he was gone in under five.

fact:
i live in an apartment complex, it is wired with rg59 bulk. i just use the outlet that came with the apartment, the apartment building won't mod the outlets, or upgrade to rg6, so I hope this doesn't happen to ya.

I have since installed a motorola drop amp (80 at bestbuy) in place of the outlet, and run monstercable rg6 to the modem, (started out with a linksys USB/ETH (sucks)) now have a Toshiba PCX1100u. things are super steady, and I almost doubled my d's n u's from the linksys (not sure what the problem with the linksys was, I think maybe the sensitivity to noisy line, or perhaps operating mhz were a problem)

Never called insightbb about changing the modem, their reg. software (or even insightbb.com) can change everything once you have an acct# and password. Try saving the cash for the install, do it yourself, call them and tell them to forget sending a tech, you just want yer actt and pass, and that's that. I am amazed at how bad a rap insight gets, when if you are competent to some degree the automation in installing a cable modem is considered by me to be FULL ON PIMP. hope you save the 30-100 whatever they charge there to do the work man....hope this post helps anyone else.

Lesson:
if you live in an apartment complex, and they won't install rg6 in place of the five hundred year old crunchy dirty fiberglass infected rg59, install a drop amp and who cares if the neighbors get bleed over, let insight hammer that out on their own time. works out for everyone if your neighbors are already annoying. :P

Well hopefully they have trained are techs locally on this. In the past this level of service wasn't really offered. Tech came in used the stupid @HOME install disc made sure all was up & running of course. The line also got installed. But as for email setup or a run through of anything else. You were on your own. So good to see that in at least 1 area they have improved upon the install process. Hopefully my area is now following the above steps. I can see where it would be more time consuming. But definitely more beneficial to the customer.
