Show Who Voted

How bout the ability for us peons to see who voted for a post and/or thread. Sometimes this is abused and people vote for a flame or something like that and also for the deserving posts, some extra value may be added if you see that a knowledgable member voted for it.

It seems like it would clean up the system a little bit and voting would shift back to the original intent.

So if someone votes up a flame or an insult someone can have a target to go after? Thank you, come again.

No thanks, I believe in the sanctity of the voting booth.

My thinking is that it would prevent that because nobody will want to have their their name plastered to a flame.

Nobody will want others to know they voted something up, good or bad. Usually someone will reply with the "thumbs up" style post stating they voted. Once you get past the first two thumbs, there are quite a few number of votes, so listing 10+ names would make a mess.

If that happens the thumbs down should come back then.

So you're saying because a post gets too many votes people should start to vote it down? Makes no sense.

I think what he means is that since this is designed to reduce abuse, people will not abuse the thumbs down.

I see it as him saying it should come back because a post has too many votes.

I think this is a great idea!

especially for the person who gets voted for. I would love to see who voted for my post, and thank them, find out why they voted for it, etc... How about something that just the one user can see instead of everyone?

Well, keeping the relative anonymity, the thumbs up dialog which pops up could have a checkbox to send a private IM to them, if checked. This would allow those who want to let them know, and for others to uncheck it to remain anonymous. Best of both worlds.

As for post, it's out of our hands. I think Justin has the power in that area.
As for threads, doesn't the forum mod have power over that? Or rather, the mod hosting that forum to keep or not keep voted threads?

I forget which mod said this but it wasn't too long ago. Anyway they said that in their forum they can choose to Unmark a thread that was voted up.

Wow! I can't believe this went in that fast. It's a little eery to see who voted for what though.

Just give me a thumbs up...you'll see. It's like big brother is watching you -- but I'm not complaining, it's a cool little feature! .

I see that sql server in use already

Flagger just told me that you are the only one who can see your thumbs. Other members thumbs are invisible i.e. if you thumb someone up you and others can't see it.

Re: Show Who Voted

I have to agree, this does look good. I still can't see who voted for me in a specific thread, but I will wait until tomorrow and maybe it will be fixed. Great site addition!
