Re: RoadRunner Blocking Kazaa Port 1214 said by wzoo1: PROBLEM IS ROADRUNNER IS BLOCKING THE PORT(1214) WHICH KAZAA/Grokster uses. If that port is blocked, the program will 100% not function meaning not able to connect. Its like port 80 blocking...
Did you read this post in the middle of the thread:
"No, it's much more than that. All downloads slow to a crawl before stopping completely, and all uploads stall after a certain point, usually 128k"
Doh... he's connecting.
PS if RR was blocking Kazza it would be discussed a heck of a lot more... and I definitely would know firstv hand. Its not blocked.

If RR was really blocking this users 1214 port, he wouldn't even be able to search for anything, let along download anything at any speed.
Kazaa uses a few different ports overall, but the only one used for file sharing is 1214. If that is blocked, nothing is coming through. -- Getting angry means, punishing yourself for someone else's mistake. |

| reply to willardk Just because a connection is initially allowed does not mean they are not blocking the port or using some sort of filter. And furthermore, the same thing happens regardless of whether or not any files are being uploaded or the number of downloads. Things were fine until the RR scans on port 1214 started, and now the program is useless. Again I would point people to the following two links:
»pub45.ezboard.com/fmorpheusfrm1.···97.topic
and
»pub45.ezboard.com/fmorpheusfrm1.···18.topic
for more confirmation. It seems this is only happening in certain cities right now, but it could be expanded in the future.
And furthermore, not everything on Kazaa is copyrighted. There are numerous legitimate uses for the program, which people seem to ignore. The point is RR decided to arbitrarily alter access to it without disclosing it to their customers. The reality is that if they continue to do so and expand the practice to other markets, they will begin to lose a lot of business, regardless of what copyright zealots think. Imagine if a national residential ISP had blocked access to Napster in its prime. Many people actually got ISP access just for Napster. And internet use (and ISP revenues) were increased because of it. It's a bad idea to bite the hand that feeds you. |

 | As I said, the problem happens when no uploads are taking place, or even when uploads are disabled in Kazaa options. Searches rarely work and ALL downloads slow down and then stop, regardless of file type, which was definitely not the case before. And when uploading is turned on, ALL uploads stop after 128K of data has been transferred. Yet upload and download speeds are great via FTP, even with large files. It seems obvious to me that some sort of firewall or filter is in place to restrict Kazaa use. And the thing is, I actually think it would be fair to require higher fees for P2P use, if they would offer such a thing and disclose the practice. |

Are you using a router at all? The reason I ask is because I had similar symptoms with the SMC7004ABR router for 1.5 yrs and the problem was poratic. Some days it was great and others the connection was unbareable. I ended up getting another router and the internet is a friendly place again |
