Broadband Users Under Attack Once Again!

On July 17, in Washington DC, there will be a Workshop on Digital Content and Rights Management This is DMCA revisited. The panel of speakers is a who's who of technology companies that advocate "digital rights management", the banning of free/open source software, and of the removal of the ability of consumers to control their computer. It is also a who's who of hollywood and the record companies that want to ban all analog devices, and only allow digital devices that can only play/record/archive what they say is legitimate. That means CDs & DVDs that expire, inability to backup CDs, inability to transfer from one format to another, etc.

The panel includes Jack Valenti, MPAA spokesman, who recently called librarians terrorists. NYLXS is a free/open source software defender, and is one of the organizations helping to organize a trip from the NYC area to Washington DC to protest this attack on the public and our fair use rights.

This event, and our defense of the public's fair use rights will be covered by the managing editor of Newsforge.com and Linux.com and we are in contact with other reporters that may be attending as well.

Your assistance and presence is needed. If you cannot attend, please contact the commerce committee via the email addresses listed and demand that they include more representatives of the public on the panel. This panel is totally one-sided. If you would like to attend, register for one of the mailing lists here by simply inputting your email address and hitting submit. Once you receive confirmation, return the confirmation, and you will be able to ask for assistance in getting there.

This is a site monitored heavily by ISPs. If you are an ISP rep, see the bottom of this page and be sure that you understand that your networks will be legally attacked (Congressman Howard L. Berman's letter near bottom of page) by the music industry if legislation passes by the same individuals who are meeting next week. If you are an ISP rep in the NYC metro area, please get on our mailing list and make arrangements to go with us to this event. If you have any pull with any US Reps and can get yourself or one of our reps on one of the panels, it is even more important that you contact NYLXS

If you are outside the NYC Metro area, But are in Washington DC, or any other area, please make an effort to help defend our rights. We are currently working around the clock to make sure that we have a sizeable presence at this event, that we have favorable press coverage, and that we can somehow sway a committee that seems to have stacked the deck against the public. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!

Here's what I posted at the main news article. It is applicable here as well. Come on. Get involved. Take a couple of minutes, and send a couple of emails. Pick up your cell phone with free long distance, and call Chris Israel. Help us to get fair representation on the panel. Just a couple of minutes of your time will help. When you're done, post it here so others can see that you did something. And then maybe they will too. Thank you.
