If you're getting a good picture and good signal levels, you don't need it.

What WOULD be good signals for such Motorola modems...Till what ranges is the signal good enough? What power level should my modem be at (a nice .jpg would help me a lot)? What about those little annoying little...

3- Critical H501.16 HFC:FEC LOCK recovery failed
3- Critical H501.4 HFC:LOST TRC SyNC - trying to recover

Think that should help out, the Signal Booster? My digital cable box is also a Motorola/GI harware (and it sucks if u tell me). Channel changing is too slow (1-2 sec). Any help is appreciated...

Gian

Save your $$ friend...If your Rx power is between -15dBmV and +15 dBmV...and your Tx power is 35 to 50 dBmV, there's nothing to gain, and alot to lose, if you install that amp. In my experience as a Lead System Tech, nothing destroys the upstream like a subscriber-installed reverse amplifier. The noise injected into the return path can disrupt modem services for hundreds of subscribers, with just one of these things installed! Please, if your having signal level problems, go thru the normal service process, and keep the connections at your home tight, and cables out of danger of damage.
Digital tuner channel delay is normal, but might indicate low signal into the device. The # of outlets active in your home can be part of the issue, as well as long runs of cable. Have a service tech out to check levels at the TVs. More than 2 lines active on a HSD+video wired home equals the need for an amp, but let the tech determine if it's needed, and where it needs to go.

hogwash. the DCT2000 is simply a piece of monkey crap. doesn't matter if the signal is -5 or +10 with a SNR of 40, the tuner just plain sucks. delays happen on analog or digital. only indication of a low level could be a slower than normal time for the initial screen fill when first tuning to a digital channel but 2-3 seconds from time pushing the channel button and the guide and pic to appear is just a symptom of a poorly engineered box.

I agree about the Mot set-top box being an underperformer. My parents have a DCT2000 series but I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3100. Their box is annoyingly slow to change channels. Also, the tuner sensitivity and noise figure seem pretty bad. The tuner on their Zenith TV does a respectable job of picking out poor signals, but the Mot box is bad. The Scientific Atlanta box is much better. If you look at the specs, I believe Mot is using an old 68xxx series processor for the DCT while Scientific Atlanta uses a newer RISC processor. That allows my box to do things like a displaying the current channel's video in a small window while the program guide is up.

gelbelt and stinkfoot...
My statement about the GI/Mot DCT was just that...about the GI/Mot box. I didn't say that there aren't better boxes in use in many systems. I only wanted to state that increasing the RF into these things wont really improve the delay issue, and actually might hurt analog picture quality by overdriving the input. Systems (like mine)will eventually upgrade to better equipment when the demand increases for additional features and shows a return on investment. Until then, I'll surf the channels with little notice of the delay from one to the next.

I just bought one and it has made a big difference. I have several long cable runs and multiple outlets. My TV is much clearer and my download speeds are up by ~70%. Have noticed improved internet gameplay as well. Best thing I ever bought.

Well I got one but I haven't noticed any difference.

Should have come here first.

Here's a good forum to start up some cool threads (don't worry about the title of it):

Perry, it depends on the make/model of your modem... See the link below.

thanks.

Actually, after I posted the question, I found the FAQ.

I do have a problem. After the modem sync up (Receive OK, Send OK and Online OK for my SB3100), I cannot read the configuration page. I believe the service provider disable the configuration page.

Anyone knows how to read configuration if the service provider disable the page?

Are you behind a router? Did you try typing in just 192.168.100.1? I've never heard of an ISP disabling the internal modem pages on the Motorola models.
