| Sneaky trick to fool rogers techs I want to get my 4 year old Terayon replaced for a DOCSIS, and i figured out a way to slow down the connection and make it laggy so when rogers techs ping you and make you do speed tests its slow as heck. I set my NIC to 10mbps full duplex, and the speeds are crappy as heck, less than 15KB/sec download. The 2nd level tech was baffled, he is suspecting the modem (LOL), so i might be getting a DOCSIS modem soon. -- Crunch for Team Discovery! Also visit www.ihaterogers.ca |

| They told me it is available here... They sent some ticked to the network engineers to try to see if there isnt a problem on the street, that'll take a few days... If things dont improve they said to call back... hehe... I figured since they jacked up prices for the modem rental, I deserve a new modem after 4 years! -- Crunch for Team Discovery! And people wonder why techs give them such a hard time when they call in and why prices go up...not saying that this is the only reason but it's definitely a factor. |

Then they get tested and set out to people again. So it doesn't hurt them that much. Everyone will get a new modem at some point but I am in no rush to get one -- 18.98Ghz of Cancer killing power commin at yah. |

neeloy join:2002-03-08 North Las Vegas, NV | But it costs money to roll a truck to your house to swap the modem, it costs them money to have the modem tested, repacked and shipped. All these things add to the cost of providing service. |
|
elusionPremium join:2001-10-25 Scarborough, ON | reply to HiVolt It costs us money to pay for the service, and if you can get better service by getting a different modem, I say go for it, so neeloy, think about it, rogers screws everyone over, why cant we ever get what we want out of it. Go for it. -- In the game of Broadband, you always loose when you go the Rogers route.I'm not Canadian :P |

| Hehe... I'm sorry if i sound like an asshole, but my Rogers cablemodem sux, my Rogers cable services sux, and my Cabletv from rogers also sux, too many fuzzy channels, and i'm just a little upset with this bloody monopoly. I cant get DSL, so its either these monkeys or dialup.... -- Crunch for Team Discovery! Also visit www.ihaterogers.ca |

the fact that every user that was switched from a terayon modem to a docsis modem reports better pings... including me. terayon modems get 24ms pings to the 1st hop @ best... docsis modems get 6ms pings to the 1st hop @ best... the modems use different technology... the terayon modems use s-cdma and the docsis modems use docsis... i'm guessing the way the technologies work is what makes one ping higher then the other... |

| Well I used to get 5ms pings to my first hop with Shaw, on the Terayon. But thats long ago. I think the Terayon system is not as good when the segment has a lot of people using bandwidth, where as DOCSIS is more efficient at giving better service in a populated area. -- Crunch for Team Discovery! | reply to skillton Below is the ping time to my gateway with a 4-5yr old Lancity modem. Why would I want a different modem? I've moved 3 times since I first got cable, and have refused to return this modem for a new one every time.
