it won't show up as a Red Envelope if you choose, makes it so it won't keep popping up on your favs if you don't want it to (something you aren't interested in)

It just removes the red envelope entirely so that it will always be white indicating no updates.

Waldwick, NJ | It allows you to mark a thread so that it doesn't show as having new posts since you last looked at it. So it shouldn't show in the Favs view and I imagine in the specific forum view the thread is in, it just shows as read all the time.
