I heard the horror stories about the IBM drives crashing like hot cakes. but isnt that the 75GXP model that was the lemon? I havent heard anything bad about the 120GXP. Am i right?? |

| The 60 and 75GXPs have had their problems, I myself am a statistic (two 60GXPs in HD Heaven).
The 120GXPs don't have a high failure rate. IBM simply made the mistake of a poor press release, that recommended 33% usage for your drives. IBM didn't mean you can't use the drives 24/7. They are designated for server usage. They simply meant this would be the best way to get maximum performance/lifespan out of the disk.
You can check www.storagereview.net for more in depth detail on the 120 GXPs. -- 56K is good. You can benchmark your PC by leaving it all on day trying to D/L something... |

| SLK2355 i would not risk getting any IBM HD with my data. I may never had a IBM HD but there a good reason for that with all the problems. I remember i was going to buy a IBM 75 GXP series HD a while back but didn't because i saw all the problems people were having at storgereview. I was pretty close to buying a IBM 75 gxp series HD too but i did not. Instead i got a Maxtor HD which is still running to this day! Thank goodness i did not get a IBM HD. I am glad i saved myself from all that trouble. I talked to people who sent back their HD back 2 to 5 times and had it die even the 5th time. Its crazy. I would not trust a IBM HD if you gave it to me for free. With important data on a IBM HD i would back it up everyday. If not every time you add or change something. If you want to lose important information a good way to do it is to put it all on a IBM HD. There is a class action suit for IBM now so i would not trust them. Even sites that review them had the HDs go bad. So its not like its the user causing the problem. -- Any help is very appreicated. Please Reply. Thanks |

| reply to SLK2355 I have had a 60gxp fail on me... Don't buy IBM go for segate... they are a very good brand.. seen this one site say they have best hd's in servers few failures... if servers don't have probs i don't think a home user would -- In the end it doesnt matter. |

| The IBM 75 gxp series and the IBM 60 gxp series were having problems. I even heard problems about the IBM 120 GXP series with getting a dead HD on arrival, etc. I don't care how fast they are, if they were free, or i could have unlimited number of them. I would still not take them. #1 thing for me in a HD is stabilty, close behind #2 is then speed. -- Any help is very appreicated. Please Reply. Thanks |

| reply to SLK2355 The 120 GXP should be fine - I have 4 75 GXP's that are all still running after a year. Their problems did not hit everyone and all manufacturers have had their problems in the past. It is really just about impossible to get a consensus on good hard drives since just about everyone has had problems with hard drives no matter the manufacturer. -- Brian CylonRed in the AOLL "Just on the border of your waking mind........" |

| reply to SLK2355 The 120's do not have problems. They are really cheap because their older brothers and sisters got hooked on crack and kept dying. That's it.
I am going to take advantage of these cheap 120's come next payday. |
