Got any links for this -- or how to arrange it?
How strong are their links into the backbones? Anything like they claim? |

| They offer business class access at those prices and they have peering agreements with several (seven I think) level 1 providers for their backbone. As for their policies re: port blocking and acceptable uses I don't have a link handy, but they have very very few restrictions.
From their website:
Best of Breed connectivity via InterNAP
2 hops to 11 major Internet backbones
Guaranteed Service Level Agreement
Free unlimited dialup account
Dedicated business technical support team
Up-to-the-minute installation status via Total Account ControlTM
NAT by default, up to 32 IPs if needed
Primary & Secondary DNS services for up to 5 domains
10 Speakeasy email boxes and unlimited aliases
From their website:
Moderations of Use:
Bandwidth: As an ISP, Speakeasy's bottom line is determined partially by the amount of bandwidth customers utilize. Speakeasy can normally balance that cost and utilization while continuing to provide great service to all customers. Customers will not be charged for the bandwidth consumed, nor do we have specific limits or caps on that bandwidth. If you utilize any of your Speakeasy services in a manner which consumes excessive bandwidth or affects Speakeasy's core equipment, overall network performance, or other users' services, Speakeasy may require that you cease or alter these activities.
News server connections are a limited resource and shared among all Speakeasy members. The number of simultaneous news server connections is limited to your service package details. Speakeasy does not guarantee throughput to news servers.
Speakeasy does not allow customers authoritative control of their own reverse DNS within the speakeasy.net or speakeasy.org domain.
Speakeasy believes in the right of the individual to publish information they feel is important to the world via the Internet. Unlike many ISP's, Speakeasy allows customers to run servers (web, mail, etc.) over their Internet connections.
Any service that causes a disruption in the network integrity of Speakeasy or its vendors, whether directly or indirectly, is strictly prohibited and could result in termination of service. This may include but is not limited to: IRC servers, adult-content servers, bots, webpages hosted on any Speakeasy servers, or servers connected to a Speakeasy provided Internet connection. Speakeasy reserves the right of final discretion.
Speakeasy has a strict policy regarding network abuse. If you use your Speakeasy account to distribute unsolicited commercial or bulk email (spam), harass, defraud, hack or otherwise attempt to gain unauthorized access to any systems, networks or accounts, Speakeasy reserves the right to suspend and/or terminate your account and all Speakeasy-provided services immediately, without advanced notice. Speakeasy reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to make a determination of what constitutes abuse and you agree that Speakeasy's determination is final and binding on you.
You are ultimately responsible for any and all activity that originates from your Internet circuit regardless of your knowledge of such activity. This includes but is not limited to activity by other household members, friends and guests. This also applies to security breaches of your own system by others who launch attacks from your machine. It is absolutely imperative that everyone with an Internet connection take proper precautions to ensure the security of their machine.
Speakeasy vigorously pursues all instances of abuse. If you feel you have been attacked or spammed, please notify Speakeasy's Abuse Department and appropriate action can be taken.

Any hints or should I just call them? |

Internap is indeed the choice for IP routing that Speakeasy uses. However, if you evaluate them, be sure to check where the nearest pop is. If you don't live in a city with a pop, you'll have to endure a long trip to get to your default gateway. |

| Someone on the Speakeasy forum answered my question -- Los Angeles Covad connections go through the LAX POP, Worldcom goes through SFO.
Since most of Sprint Biz DSL traffic seems to go through Stockton, SFO doesn't sound too bad. I am asking them about ping times to my VPN... |

| Speakeasy.net was slow in responding to emails... and Cyberonic decided that they were at my CO after all. $59/Month with 5 IPs at 1.5Mb/768kb and no contract. $99 install and I must return the modem/router if I leave.
I will miss the 8Mb down, but I'll almost get the same as the "so-called" 1Mb up. |

About the only choice for decent upload speeds at a decent price are the WorldCom/MCI 1.5/768 ADSL resellers such as BritSys, DSLi or Cyberonic. |

| Worldcom will do the higher upload in the PacBell area.
I am trying to sign up for Cyberonic/ Worldcom, but they mysteriously could not install it on a line that previously had Earthlink/PacBell DSL. Yes, the carrier was fully released long ago (when ION was folding up). PacBell claimed there was a load coil IN MY HOUSE, even with everything disconnected to the NID.
So I am trying again on a different line that has never had DSL and I know exactly where all the internal wiring goes. |
