dxmember join:2002-02-28 Wappingers Falls, NY | IRC idle connection? Every time I try to get files from a DCC server on IRC (mainly DALnet) I get kicked out because of an idle connection. For example, let's say I try to get a song mp3: I get in the serv and queue up my file. After 30 seconds or so, my connection is disconnected by the other end becuase I was idle. How is this fixed? I'm using Snak if this is of any help. |

| Your spot in the DCC chat will timeout but your queue spot won't. So just queue a file and then you can exit it and when your time comes up it will send. -- Come and chat on IRC.BBR-IRC.COM #BBR [text was edited by author 2002-07-26 13:53:02] |

One thing to add is don't leave the channel, especially while your send is in progress. Many servers will give you a reasonable amount of time to return, in case of a netsplit or a disconnect.
If you're disconnected from the server, set up mIRC to reconnect on disconnect.
---[ How to Auto-Reconnect on Disconnect in mIRC * ]------
- Pop up mIRC - Click Alt-O (Options Menu) and navigate to +CONNECT - Left click the + next to CONNECT and navigate to -OPTIONS - Checkmark [x] Reconnect on Disconnect - Click [RETRY] - Set up the RETRY screen as follows:
--------------[ Retry Options ]--------------
[x] Enable connect retry
If not connected in: 20 seconds Retry connections: 999 time(s) Retry Delay: 1 second . If you see the message about "throttling the server" (ie reconnecting too quickly,) set this field to 20 seconds.
Most importantly checkmark [x] Try next server in group
- Click OK to save Retry settings - Click OK again to permanently save mIRC settings.
--------------------------------------
* Note: Screen capture is from mIRC v6.02. However the screens in older versions of mIRC are almost identical.
Refer to the screen capture attached to this message!
By the way, you should be able to change your nickname and still receive the send, which is queued up to your hostmask irregardless of your current nickname.
Good luck!!
