 Just what we always wanted...

Complete and total goverment control over everything we watch, hear and want to publish. What a bloody mess, especially the base fact that if you publish your own music you would have to pay to make it playable on your own hardware...ugh.

Amen to that.

People think 1984 can never happen, and that's why it can.

Biden said. "Every episode of "Seinfeld" is now available to download free to anyone with access to the Internet."

Well, it was free to begin with...and nobodies selling it...so what is wrong.

The 1984 reference is to George Orwell's book 1984. Which was actually written in 1948, and what coined the popular term "Big Brother is watching".

This particular image I believe was used in reference to the NSA, essentially implying that they wanted to institute a system similar to Big Brother.

If you download it, then you don't see the commercials -- which is what the networks complain about. It's again, all about the cash...in this case ad revenue.

So what if i wouldnt watch the commercials on TV in the First place? Whenever i watch seinfeld on TV and commercial comes in , i always switch to another program.

There is no difference in me downloading a free television episode on the internet and watching a free episode on TV.

Well, I agree....

I think the Seinfeld thing is a pretty poor example considering the show is in syndication now and not in the current prime time lineup.

However, again -- this all comes down to the commercials. If you were to actually watch the commercials like you're supposed to (according to them ) -- when you download, you don't see them...and thus their advertisers are less likely to buy air if their ads aren't being seen.

I imagine they also don't like you having copies of the episodes cause you are of course a pirate if you download them and therefore will sell them to the highest bidder, you terrorist!!! Oh, and again to the ads...if you have them on your PC then you don't need to watch TV.

Just shows you that they can't come up with a sound argument ... ever.

Personally I don't watch commercials at all...but that's mostly due to the fact that they push the bounds of my sanity(what little is left), and my intelligence(what little is left). Things like the AOL commericals underlying message "if your an idiot sign up with us!". Or the odd ball crap commercials up here...*shudder*.

The thing is, I can see the execs now saying we need to mandate a reform in TV's so that people can no longer change channels when commericals come on, they are stealing revenue from us!

...and while they're at it, they need to make the TVs come with chairs that won't let you get up and leave the room when a commercial comes on.

How about this? We could have it mandatory for viewers to watch at least 8 hours of forced television mind expansion. Sit down, strap yourself in (literally) and have the image sent directly into your retina.

Alternately I envision a eyelid restraint ala A Clockwork Orange that would work quite well.

Hehe... just incase the majority of american's don't know here in canada they swap out american channels and their commericals and replace them with canadian channels. Your basicly forced to watch canadian TV even if you want to watch an american. The goverment says that it's to protect canadian identity...personaly...I don't like having anything rammed down my throat...as such I don't watch very much TV.
