[request] Journal forum

Ok I shamelessly stole this idea from another site. A new forum reserved for people who think they can keep an online diary that is useful or entertaining or both. Or even boring if you like, (just don't expect the view counter to go up very fast in that case).

It works very simply: you can create a new topic, and add to it, but nobody else can comment or act on it other than voting and reading it. Only the owner can post onto the end of it. Its kind of a very basic blog.

The new forum is called Journals and is in the Entertainment category.

You know, maybe nobody has anything interesting they want to write about, or they are too private, or something.. but maybe not. Someone setting up a neighborhood ISP, for example, could keep a pretty interesting journal online.

Well anyway, worst case, it'll be either empty, or with a few deadly dull journals nobody wants to read. In which case I'll just remove the forum. But it seemed like it was worth a try.

Any plans to do something like you can only see/access it if you have atleast 1 or 2 grey stars?

Well I know you cannot be anonymous to post their. I logged off to test if I could reply to my own or start one and it gave me you must be registered.

I forsee some people writing a rated PG-13/R blog.

Interesting. I was interested in unreasonable polls but this sound like true fun. “What? 80% of you voted I’m wrong? AARRRGGHHH!” Zero flame. Total honesty. Likey.

Sounds cool. Oh BTW if you want more journal views just go to your journal and keep hitting refresh. BTW it will be interesting to see Justin's journal. Day in the life of the owner of BBR...

Hm

I wonder if the default view for a journal forum topic, should be in reverse date order.. (most recent entry listed at the top)..

Are you supposed to create one journal and keep everything there or do you make different ones?

You should have it so it doesn't count in your counter if you go and view your own journal. Just by checking it or adding things to it and then when you preview it, you're adding hits to the counter. Thanks.

I would vote for that display option as well. For most recent entry displayed at the top.

I don't think so. I doubt many journals will be read daily. Many will be read from time to time.

Since many will be necessarily self-referential, they will be easier to follow if they are in chronological order. Regulars can go into the thread's page(s) and read from where they left off. Easy enough.

If they are in reverse order, I'm going to end up reading references to stuff that might be explained in another entry. It would cause them to seem disjointed.

Chronological order, please.
