Long time no see, huh?
Several things to mention, at least something more interesting than work and sleep. Sunday 08/04/2002
Well, I woke up at 9:20am and went to the Miami International Airport to pick-up my cousin.
Brought him home, and I ate some pancakes for breakfast, and we hung-out for a little while.
After, we went to go run some errands. One of them being going to Best Buy so that I can buy a wireless router. Finally I have a wireless LAN at home, I'm quite happy. I found the deal from Best Buy, in their Sunday ad. I guess it's still possible these days to get things cheap at the Brick and Mortar stores. I can also now use my Wireless NIC to go online at school.
I bought a D-Link DI-614+ Wireless Router and a DWL-650+ Wireless NIC. This is the router/NIC that have that special Texas Instruments (TI) chipset that allows for 22Mbps. The router itself has 4 switched 10/100 Ethernet ports, so I can still have my desktop machines connected as before.
Time to put the old D-Link DI-704 Router away. I'm very happy with D-Link. They make very powerful routers for a very cheap price. The whole thing set me back $150 (after rebates). $100 for the router ($20 rebate) and $50 for the NIC ($10 rebate). That's something pretty rare these days. I'm glad I can keep using D-Link products.
Later on, I talked to my girlfriend, and she was done shopping in the mall with her parents. So I just went to pick her up there, and brought her over. Later, my other best friend (Vicky) came over to hang out. We all spent a good while hanging out together, and later ate dinner.
So I finally took my girlfriend home after dinner, and Vicky went home, too. My cousin and I stayed-up late watching the Wild On E! special where they were finding Brooke Burke's replacement. Monday 08/05/2002
Woke-up, took a shower, went to eat breakfast, and came to work. Started making flowcharts in Visio for our tasks in our system.
Went to lunch at 3pm, and now I'm back.

Well, as I hoped, things picked-up a little.
So much so, in fact, that I haven't updated this since 10:30am Friday.
Aaanyway...
Friday 08/02/2002
Friday at work was pretty uneventful. I went to lunch, came back, and then left at 6pm.
I went to go pick up my girlfriend, so that we could go out to dinner.
It was sort of like a "last supper" sort of deal, because we're not going to have much, if any, alone-time in the next month.
So, we went to the TGI Fridays by my house, to have a nice and simple little dinner. I got confused in what I was ordering, and ended-up ordering the wrong thing. Here I thought I was saving money, and getting a lot for my money ($12)... and instead I had ordered the Triple Jack Combo ($20). Woops. LoL. Oh well, I enjoyed it, and that's the important part. At least I got a lot of GoldPoints. I love that Jack Daniels sauce and the ribs.
After, we came home and spent the night in bed watching TV. Some nice quiet quality time together. Then around 1am we left, and I took her home.
Saturday 08/03/2002
Today I woke-up around 2pm. I didn't really mean to wake up so late... but I guess I finally made-up for all the sleep I don't get during the week. I would have liked to have woken-up somewhere between 11am - 1pm, but I guess my body got what it wanted.
I went to go eat lunch, and saw a bunch of nice cars. I took some pictures of them, and will be posting them into my photojournal.
Then I went to the local barber shop, and got a haircut. Came home, took a shower. Now I'm waiting for my best friend (Brian) to come over. At around 8:15, my girlfriend's best friend (Christy) is going to pick her up. Then they're going to come pick-up Brian and me around 8:45, so that we can go to dinner and a movie.
Usually, Brian comes over, and we pick-up Sylvia (my girlfriend), and then Christina, and then go out. Thing is, Christy got a new car, so wanted to take us out in it. And the reason they're picking us up at my house, is because all the restaurants and places (movies, shopping, hangouts) we always go to are this area (Brian and my neighborhood).
Deciding where to eat is usually an exercise in frustration. Why? Because we've been to almost every restaurant here, and can never decide. We usually end-up driving around aimlessly looking for somewhere to go. We can't go to Cheesecake Factory, because last time the four of us went out, that's where we went. So who knows what will happen...
Brian's coming early, just to hang out, and so he can show me his new Linux installation on his laptop. I think he installed Gentoo or that one everyone's been raving about lately. It's the one you have to custom compile for whichever processor you have.
Well, that's it for now. I'm off to make the photojournal. Talk to you folks soon!

Good Morning, Cyberspace.
I woke-up all groggy this morning, as usual. No surprise there.
Left the house, and went to have breakfast.
Came to work, and now I'm just here, waiting for things to pick-up.
Thank God it's Friday!
Though it's been a boring Friday so far.

The end of a not-so-exciting day.
The rest of the day at work was uneventful.
I left promptly at 6pm, and went home. My brother wanted me to drop him off at a friend's house in Pinecrest, which is like a 10 minute drive away.
After I left him, I went to Circuit City to buy him a splitter for his TV and computer. I checked the ATI website, and saw that there was a newer XP driver for his ATI All-in-Wonder 128 PRO, so I decided to install it again. This time it's been very stable.
So, having nothing better to do for the rest of the evening, I ended-up wandering around Circuit City, looking at everything. I almost left the store without the splitter, which is what I was there to get initially.
I noticed there were three types of splitters:
- Cheap RCA that does the lower frequencies
- Mid-priced Monster Cable that does a little higher frequencies
- Expensive Monster Cable that does all of 'em, and is made for digital and HDTV
Well, we have AT&T Digital Cable, though not in the rooms (we just have the Motorola receiver on our big TV), but I felt bad, and bought him the expensive one.
Got home, installed the splitter, installed the TV tuner program from ATI, and everything was fine.
Well, almost...
There was no sound. I realized that there's an internal cable, like the ones for CD-ROMs, that needs to go from the sound card to the TV tuner. So I'll have to plug that in later tonight.
Made myself a ham and cheese sandwich for dinner, with a Diet Coke. Sat on the couch and watched the end of Driven while I ate. They ruined that movie by putting so much CGI in it. After dinner, came on the computer for a bit, and then I had to go pick-up my brother again.
On the way home, I stopped to gas-up at the Chevron in town. That way I won't have to do it in the morning. Since I put more than $10 of gas, they give you one of those Mickey Mouse keychains. So I got one for my girlfriend (Shhh! Don't tell her!). She loves Disney stuff.
As I was leaving, I saw some real suspicious kids loitering in front of the houses that are across from the gas station. They kept play fighting there in the middle of the street. So I drove around town looking for a cop (of which there are usually many), but there weren't any. Oh well, those kids lucked-out. I would have told the cops to go check them out. I wouldn't want those idiots playing between the front of my house and a gas station at 11:15pm at night.
So I'm off on my way home. My girlfriend called me, and presented me with a dilemma:
Go on the Disney trip we've booked a month ago, or go on a cruise with her parents. The Disney trip involves her, her best friend, my best friend (Brian), and my cousin. We're not sure what to do right now, but I guess we're just going to see if her parents still want to go on a cruise (if they can get a good enough package). What a shame that their trip coincides with ours. Time will tell...
In the Ringtones Saga Department, there's a bit of an update. In fact, a conclusion to the whole damned ordeal:
Well, it finally occurred to me that I should just do a Google search for "MIDI Ringtones." Turns out, that I found a site that has everything in MIDI, which I just open in the Ringtone Composer, and send to the phone. Now I have all my old ringtones back; Sleeping Beauty for my girlfriend, Simpsons for my family, Mission: Impossible for work, and I put Austin Powers for my friends. At least that's over with...
Good night you all!

Just got back from lunch.
It's a scorcher out there! Damn it's hot, and when I got in the car, you breathed and felt like you were sucking-up thick wet air.
Went to my usual place for lunch... which is the same place I typically have breakfast every morning...
Coincidentially, there was another silver G-Wagen parked in almost the same spot as the one that was there this morning.
What's even funnier is that another silver one pulled-up, and parked behind it. On the way back to the office, there was a middle-aged white man driving a Cadillac Escalade with 22" chrome rims. Looked kinda like this:

I thought only ghetto people were into big Caddies riding on dubs. I guess I was wrong.
Before I went to lunch, nothing too interesting happened.
I spent some time researching ringtones and SMS stuff for my cell phone, and was browsing the forums on here. Placed a few ADSL orders into the WorldCom system.

08/01/2002 - 10:20
Good morning everyone.
I stayed up really late last night, because I was going crazy trying to download ringtones for my cell phone.
It seems that free ringtones are very hard to find. I haven't downloaded ringtones in a while, and back then they were easier to find. But the weird thing is, that my cell phone can use the Nokia PC Composer, but you actually have to program the music.
I was able to import MIDI files through it, and they worked half-decently. So I'm still searching. I guess it's kind of like Neo searching for Morpheus.
Around that time, my cousin wanted to discuss some things, including his trip here, so I gave him a call. He wanted me to delete all his e-mail accounts and aliases, and make him a single new account. He said he was getting too much spam, since he had so many aliases.
I also downloaded and installed Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (Click for Direct Download) on my Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Thanks to the guys in the Microsoft Help forum for the handy link. So begins another day...
I woke up late, and had to rush out of the house. I was waiting at the traffic light to turn toward Mojito, and there was a silver Mercedes-Benz G500 "Gelaendewagen" (G-Wagen) next to me. Then, when I looked to the left, I saw my brother on his bike.
Ate my usual cafe con leche and tostada, and dropped-off my brother at a medical building that's right on the way to work, so that he can pass out some menus. On our way out of Mojito, there was another silver G-Wagen parked a few spots away.
My friend Brian called me when I was almost to the office. I haven't talked to him in like a week. I left him a voicemail yesterday, inviting him to go out with my girlfriend and I, and her friend. He said he could go, so that's cool.
So now I'm here at the office, waiting for a new adventure in DSL.

So the day has finally come to a close.
Nothing terribly interesting happened at work today. I called this guy in Aruba, who's a hotel chain's head of operations for Aruba. I had to help him with the faxing features in Vox3. It was kind of hard talking to him, because the quality of the calls to down there was terrible. The sound kept cutting-out, or we'd talk at the same time thinking the other had finished talking. Talk about awkward, it was the first time I'd ever spoken to the guy. Anyway, I was able to help him out in the end.
Other than that, I accidentally locked myself out of my own cell phone when trying to set-up a PIN on my SIM card. GSM phones allow you to set a PIN on the SIM card, so that when you start-up a phone that has your SIM card inserted, it immediately prompts for the PIN. Too bad the hunter became the hunted. No problem, I called AT&T Wireless and it turns out that first they have to give me PUK code, that allows me to set-up my PIN for the first time.
Six o'clock finally rolled-by, and it was time to leave work. I went to go pick-up my girlfriend at her house. From there we went to Dadeland Mall to exchange a bikini she'd bought. Here's the thing: she got this really sexy turqoise DKNY string bikini, that had DKNY written at the top of her rear, by the back of her waist. Anyway, somehow two of the little rhinestones fell off, so the "D" didn't look like a "D" anymore. So she returned it, and we looked around Burdines for a replacement, but there weren't anymore of that same one, and what was left there sucked. So we finally ended-up at Pacific Sunwear (PacSun), and she found a very nice red string bikini.
That being over and done with, we went by my Mojito Grill, or as we call it, "Mojito" (my restaurant) to get some dinner. So we came back to my house, and watched American Idol... my girlfriend's obsessed with it. We were sad that Ryan Star was voted off... we both think she's hot... what a stomach!
So after the show was over, I took my girlfriend back home, and now I'm back here. My girlfriend called me for some chitchat before bed. I'll probably go to bed late as usual, after spending some time surfing DSLR and the 'net.
Good night everyone!

Elias' Journal
Well, it's 9:50am...
I'm sitting here at work, browsing-around DSLR, and decided to start a journal.
I don't really have much to say right now.
I woke up this morning around 8:20am, took a shower, got dressed, and went to my restaurant to eat a quick breakfast. Breakfast consisted of a tostada and café con leche (Cuban toast and Espresso with milk).
So here I am, waiting for things to ramp-up at work, for another exciting and adventurous day.
Today I'm going to see my girlfriend after work, we're going to pass by the mall, and then go to my house for dinner. I haven't seen her since Sunday, so I'm looking forward to 6pm.
Also, my cousin flies-in this Sunday from Caracas, Venezuela. He's going to come spend a month with me, like he usually does every summer. We usually have a blast, and go out almost every night.
That's it for now... I'll report back if there's anything cool that happens today.
