Skarface32- We've noticed that it will get faster at night but 40 is still better than 1kbps. I did download the kazaalite that they recommended. It only worked once I made sure my hosts file was exactly the same as in the help section. shorto85- Make sure you do it exactly like it says in the help section. I had that problem until I deleted everything in the hosts file except what it says to have. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!And yes I pay 4.99 a month. Makes me mad but it will do until I either have dsl available or attbi gets their acts together. |

| Hello all,
I have confirmed that they are indeed throttling Kazaa at its standard port (in/out) in CA. I'm not going to get into how I feel about this, but the cap was indeed rolled out to prevent upstream congestion in CA. You may want to let the markets know how you feel about this. |

Considering all the problems they are having in Sacramento that might actually have been a good idea. I'm not going to lose any sleep over a bunch of warez pirates not being able to get their fix through kazaa. [text was edited by author 2002-08-21 19:51:56] |

| This is bullshit,I pay for broadband and should be able to use it however I feel.
If the system can't handle the high upload fix it!
Go back to 128 cap till it can handle it,but dont just start capping certain programs and sites.
I'm using another file sharing prog right now up'ing near max so "f" att! |

I totally agree and I hope this rout they have chosen in Sacramento stays in Sacramento and is just a temporary solution to cut bandwidth usage until they improve the network. |

wow....
how about this... they DO NOT have to launch a DoS attack against every IP that is using port 1214...
they only have to attack the GATEWAY/ROUTER (s)
those are easily locataed... and typicaly do not block any request... the ISP figures that each user is responsible for his/her own security measures....
(i cant spell)
Unfortunatly that is out of YOUR hands....
you are at the mercy of the ISP security team... (provided that THIS is realy the problem)
but realy folks as an end user... you have a difficult task of troubleshooting ahead of you....
(stick a web server/ftp server on that port and see if it is affected the same way)
who knows |

I read about the http-tunnel solution and the first time I installed it, I ran the test on the last tab of the configuration section. Was depressed to see 1.5 was max for the freeware version of http-tunnel - and sure enough, that's all I got when I tried Kazaa. HOWEVER, I just reinstalled it and did the minimum configuration to run Kazaa and DID NOT go and do a speed test within http-tunnel. Now I find I'm downloading on Kazaa at 20-50 kb/s! It is only speculation on my part, but it does make ya think!? Does that stupid little test just set something in the software? I have no idea, but I'm not going to even look at that test tab!
Hell, even 10Kb/s is better than 1 or 1.5! I'll take it, thank you! Sold American! |

| reply to fireguy Okay, I finally got that information into my HOSTS file, and when http-tunnel connects it says the server got a PONG, so it is active. Also, it says my socks5 is active. However, the log continually brings up the error message "Unable to connect to server". I'm not sure what's going on, but I cannot connect to kazaa under the Socks5 settings... |
