Well, I was already familiar with SETI when I found the Club section here at DSLR. When I started looking into the clubs, Team Discovery caught my eye. I couldn't justify searching for ET when I could be helping to find a cure for cancer instead!
The spinner does catch ones eye, though...

I was reading a post by another member in a thread and clicked on the link in his signature.

Various posting signatures caused me to seek out the site.

Just as a side note: My pentium 3(933mhz)only has 128ram (soon adding another128). After a few hours, I find system performance in the 60's and 70's percentile range. Always shut-down at night and was concerned about losing data. Could not follow FAQ proper shut-down procedure.

I have now discovered---(with UD enabled on start-up) Right click the blue pill, exit and re-boot. It takes 5 minutes but all work unit data is recovered. That allows me to get my resources back to 93%. More importantly, I am now running 24/7 (except during thunderstorms).

Just thought that some other new members might not be aware of this.

Honestly, I found out about Team Discovery when I first discovered the TD's spinner. I already had 4 stars and I was eager to get more and it looked pretty (hehe yep) so I asked what it was, and that led me to the TD's forum where I later learned more about TD and it's mission/cure 4 cancer and decided to help.

I was with SETI 2 years ago, till their screen saver created a burn-in on my screen, so i didnt try anything remotley like it for awhile. Then when i came here, shopping for DSL i decided to give it another go, with a different program, and a community to interact with. I really found out about this club just by browsing the site.

Well let's see. The long story is this...

I found out about Seti @ home. Then I found out about DSLR, and they had a team working on Seti@home. Heck, maybe that's how I found out about DSLR, by reading through the team lists on Seti@home. Anyway, once I found out about DSLR's Seti Team I also found the other teams, and then I found out about the anthrax project. I worked on it, and when it was up I downloaded the UD agent, which I believe is the same program, just running a different project now.

I seen " join club" in navigation bar and clicked on it. Read through the clubs and decided Team Discovery and joined. Personally know a young girl who has been dealing with leukemia since she was a baby. She is now 10 and in remission and doing VERY well.

I am not a new member. I was told about UD thru an individual and was very skeptical. After reading some posts, I noticed someone's signature so that's how I became a member of TD.

As I was surfing through DSLReports the spinners and sig's caught my eye and so I looked through the several different distributed computing forums. Helping to find a cure for cancer seemed to be a good thing for my computer to do with it’s spare cycles, so here I am!

I was a member of Team SETI for about a year, thought I could help more trying to find a cure for cancer. When @Home went belly-up, I signed onto the Comcast forum to keep up to date on the change.

I was posting on another forum and checked out the info on a DSLR member. When I came to "Team Discovery details" and "Why I joined Team Discovery" I was intrigued so I followed the links to figure out what it was all about. In the process I discovered what the colorful symbols by member names meant. Learning about distributed computing was a revelation and it was really exciting to find out I could make a tangible contribution to cancer (and other disease) research. I ended up joining Team Discovery and Folding@Home.

Be truthful here ... it was really the mod on the left that was most appealing, right? correct?

I might as well contribute to this:

I first joined FAH but I didn't really contribute much and pretty much joined just for the spinner but I didn't think it was right to have the spinner and not really crunch.

So anyway after a while I was just looking to see what the teams did and I thought it was really great to help work toward a cure for cancer so I joined the Team since so many people in my family have died from cancer and also one of my best friend's mother has cancer.
