Re: Ad-Aware 4.5 released said by easonc: I'm new to this one - do you need to download all the following or just the main file (I'm sure I could figure it out eventually, but I've been reading the screen so much lately the eyes are bloodshot - lol) quote: Ad-aware 4.5 659 kb aaw45.exe Ad-aware signature file (101-0102) 6 kb reflst.zip Ad-aware Helpfile - standard HTML 253 kb hlpHTML.zip Ad-search v1.0 222 kb ash10.zip Ad-search Database 11/2000 5 kb klar.zip
Thank you.
You should check back weekly to see if they have updated the signature file.If so you download and unzip it to your Ad-aware 4.5 folder. The Ad-search engine and database are for searching to see if programs contain spyware. I just go to SPYCHECKER They also have a program that will run in your systray but why waste resources when the data is online. I ran the new scan and if found the OnFlow bugger I made a registry back-up and deleted it. Hope it's not as bad as some of the others,WEB3000.Webhancer.....etc... Does anyone have any info on OnFlow or a link to a site to research known sypware? Thanks kkb! -- Quest for Knowledge

| reply to Rocktagon Scooter Your not alone. I just D/L and ran Ad-Aware 4.5 and it found I was infected with onflow also. Once in my registry at HKey_Local_Machine\software|onflow\ , & again in C:Program Files\Internet Explorer\Plugins\nponflow.dll . I then, just to see, ran Ad-Aware 4.0 ( still on my system ) and it came up blank. Ran AA 4.5 again cleaned out the two hits ran it again, this time clean. And just because I'm a suspicious fellow did a file search on " *onflow*.* " got a hit for "onflow[1].htm" in my Temporary Internet Files\Content folder. There were about 15 to 20 onflow listings there so I cleaned out the Temporary Internet files and now , finally, can't find any references to the L'ill B*gger anymore. Persistant little cus. Now. How did I pick it up? I run ZAP ; InoculateIt PE; Ad-Aware; Tauscan; Cookie Crusher & have Active X enabled for prompt only. I thought I was being careful. But wait, I know, I do have one glaring hole in my security that I just can't seem to plug up it's called three teenagers. Well I guess it's time Dad had another one of those talks with them. lol. Still lots for all of us to learn. -- bb2 Since I've given up hope I feel much better. [text was edited by author 2001-02-02 19:52:04] |

RocktagonSlightly BentPremium join:2000-11-04 Chattaroy, WA | Welcome to the forum bluebaron2! Good idea checking with a file search. I rebooted to make sure everything still worked and have set up to delete windows temp and IE temp upon boot. I am clean Good question where it came from? I checked some of the google links posted by kkb and found only company info. Some interesting quotes from their FAQ: quote: How do I get my site's viewers to download the Onflow Player? You can actively promote the benefits of the Onflow Player and make it available as standalone download, or as part of other downloads on your site. But probably the most effective way is to include the download as part of interactive content your viewers naturally want to participate in. Contests and games are particularly effective. When they're based on your content, you promote your pages and Onflow enable them simultaneously. We'd be happy to discuss the promotion that will work best for you, and we will work with you to develop it. Contact sales@onflow.com.
What happens if a viewer has no Onflow Player, but visits a page containing an Onflow tag? Ideally the viewer would see a GIF placeholder, which is created by the advertiser for such situations. It will usually contain text encouraging viewers to download the Onflow Player. When a viewer clicks the GIF, the Player download process begins automatically. Once the Onflow Player is installed, the animated version of the ad will play. Onflow makes available on its site the code for enabling this, as well as buttons and code you can use to enable viewers to download the Onflow Player.
How do I ensure that Onflow ads will execute correctly on my site's pages? A major advantage of using Onflow tags on your pages is that there is virtually no testing or quality assurance required. Onflow compositions have been pre-tested in more than 1,600 iterations of operating systems, CPU's and browsers. Onflow's serving and playback are a closed loop - we control ad delivery from our high reliability servers, which are supported by the Intel Online Services Group (uptime is 99.995% or better). On the user side, playback in a browser is handled by the Onflow Player residing on the viewer's computer. There is no special software for you to install or maintain. The Player's built-in intelligence senses its host computer's processor speed, and renders the Onflow ad for optimal playback. So ad delivery is smooth and reliable, every time.
Spyware........sheesh!

I feel your pain, bluebaron. I can 'deal with' the teenagers; it's the 'grown-ups' that give me the most grief ...
Sheesh! |
