Wow that I have to admit is stupid if they have the service available they should have the modems to support the service, I would think. Maybe if you set up a install appointment the installer would have it on the truck anyways I dont know I used to have the 1 way service for a month before the upgrade 2 years ago and it was pretty horrible, you may be better off sticking with Dial Up or checking on Sat Service. -- Current Speed Record 2788/116 |

| reply to hobgoblin I did some research on one way or actually dual mode modems. At least with regards to surfboards. About the only place you can find them is on ebay. These modems (per motorola and GI) where not released for consumer sale, only for cable operators. If you find one, make sure you reset the defaults. It caused a lot of problems and made a lot of people here mad.
Make sure it has a "d" after the number designation (i.e. sb3100d) if you buy a surfboard. I was unable to find anything anwhere else.

Firstly what modem you can use would depend on which area you are in. You can not use a 2 way modem and your dial up modem in any area. You will be very lucky to find any one way modem "new". I don't think they make them any more. My advice to you is to ask someone in your area who has the service what modem they are using and research it from there.

| reply to hobgoblin They (Adelphia) said I can get one myself....has advantages and disadvantages. Trying to see what modems I can get and/or if they would work. Most of the ones for sale appear to state 2 way. I don't the details about 1 way systems, how the dialup return works, if a 2 way doscis modem would work, etc. |

Well they should not be selling the service then.

| reply to hobgoblin Ok, this is what I've got. Adelphia only supports 1 way cable modem in my neighborhood. Can I use a 2 way cable modem on a 1 way system with a regular dialup modem?
Can I lease a 2 way modem and use it on a 1 way system? I noticed most of the two way cable modems do not mention any dialup upstream.
Adelphia stated that they don't have any more 1 way cable modems to lease.
Suggestions?
