I'd say get the modem as long as their is a return policy. The SB2100 is not listed yet I know for a fact comcast will provision it just fine. |

| reply to DonLibesBad "To start things off, the Toshiba PCX1100U (my modem, sigh) has neither"
The PCX1100 has SNMP capability (user-accessible)....unfortunately Comcast disable it via the Config file
It has an IP address of 192.168.100.1 (you have to manually set your IP address to something in the same subnet) and you will have to connect directly to the Modem (without a Firewall box). You can disconnect the RF feed on the Cable modem, Power it off/on and then SNMP to it, but when you reconnect the RF, bye bye SNMP access
Unfortunately the data is useless without the Connection to Comcast

| Not sure if someone has asked this already, but I went to the motorola web page just looking for whatever there may be for "firmware". I noticed that my trusty SB4100 has been discontinued? What's that about? I am hopeful that Comcast has already "updated" my modems firmware, before the model became obsolete. Do you think this is anything to worry about? Do I need the state of the art already? |

| MY Toshiba pcx1100u works fine when it's hooked directly to the pc but I can't get to work throgh my linksys BEFSR41 V.2 Router. Linksys tech support says they have issues with this modem. If I want to use their Router I have to install a Hub between the moden and router.
Anybody else have this problem. |

@motorola.com | reply to btdude I didn't see anything on the WEB page about the 4100 being discontinued. Even if it was I wouldn't be worrying about firmware support going away. There are millions of them out there. |

This location does list the 4100 as a discontinued model. |

| I just received my new DOCSIS 2 modem from Comcast. No major problems but they told me that if any modems are not DOCSIS 2 compatible, they won't work after Sept 30. Is this possible? For instance, they say that no Linksys Modems are DOCSIS 2.0 compatible. Anybody have any info on this. Thanks. |

| Yeah right. Comcast isn't even DOCSIS 1.1 yet. How are they gonna all of a sudden jump to 2.0? Show me an average cm customer who's actually seen a SB4220, let alone using one. FYI, none of the popular SurfBoards (4200, 4100) are DOCSIS 2.0 ready (go read their prod specs if you don't believe me). Unless Comcast wants to piss off a whole bunch of its customers who purchased their own modems, DOCSIS 2.0 is not gonna happen any time soon, certainly not by 9/30. |

Um comcast isn't offering increased uploads or any docsis 2.0 features. As someone stated comcast is not even docsis 1.1 and 90% of the modems out there are NOT 2.0 compliant
They are only cutting service to NON docsis modems..don't spread info that is false thanks |

| One other thing. CableLabs haven't even come out with a DOCSIS 2.0 specification yet, so DOCSIS 2.0 doesn't even exist! All of the modems on the list can be upgraded to DOCSIS 1.1, the Terayon and a couple of the Motorolas meet the proposed specs for 2.0. Years from now when Comcast decides to go to 2.0, then an upgrade for some would be necessary, just like it is for us ex-CyberSUFR's. -- Visit and support DSLR/BBR on irc at irc.zerolimit.net #BBR Come on and chat! |

| Here is what I DO know. SB4100 Modems ARE DOCSIS 2.0 READY. That means that WHEN Comcast decides to incorporate the new 2.0 standard, (from what I understand) our modems will be provided the firmware from Comcast. My only concern about the Motorola people discontinuing the SB4100 was my concern for lack of parts, tweaks, and stuff. NOw, as to whether Comcast is DOCSIS 1.0 ready, correct me if I am wrong, but I do believe that they would HAVE to be at the 1.0 standard, otherwise none of our modems would work at all. |

@motorola.com | reply to Teriwyn Interesting the internal page doesn't show it as discontinued but the factory says they don't build em any more. Thanks for the link. |

Comcast is currently at DOCSIS 1.0. They will move to 1.1 when VoIP is rolled out. You'll know you are on 1.1 when either a) You get a new firmware or b)VoIP becomes available in your area. -- Visit and support DSLR/BBR on irc at irc.zerolimit.net #BBR Come on and chat! |

| reply to btdude This is an incorrect statement. The SB4100 can NOT be upgraded to DOCSIS 2.0. This modem is based on silicon that does not implement either of the new upstream technologies required (A-TDMA or S-CDMA).

I respectfully disagree. The Motorola customer service people told me this. The 4100 IS DOCSIS 2.0 ready. The modem itself says that right on the box. Please show me why you are not in agreement with this. |

| Hi -
The SB4100 is based on the Broadcom BCM3350. This device is DOCSIS 1.0 and 1.1 only. As I mentioned in my previous posting, this chip lacks the support of A-TDMA and S-CDMA (the new upstream elements added in the 2.0 spec). Included below is the URL to the BRCM3350 information page. I have also included the URL to the SB4100 info page for your review. The relevant Broadcom based device necessary to support DOCSIS 2.0 is the 3348, which is not yet in a certified product.
