Re: Let the decommissioning begin!

I never got a letter here in Seattle, although a Sprint rep said that I'd be decommissioned 9/15 when I called to ask (around the time people here started getting letters). Of course, I never got a letter than ION would be cancelled either; I only found out when I didn't have phones anymore (and no, sorry, we can't port your numbers out either).

I ordered a Worldcom loop from Cyberonic that was turned up last week; if it turns out that Sprint isn't cancelling us this time around, I'm sure they will cancel us eventually, so we might as well have the backup connection in place. I hate paying $170 a month for connectivity, but it's preferable to continually rearchitecting my network with almost no notice (as I've done TWICE now... once when ION was cancelled, and this time around).

You still will have sync for a few days, possibly longer. The LSR (which is just the order to cancel the circuit)still has to be processed by the ILEC, which usually takes a few days. So your loop is still there and the circuit is still up, so therefore you still have sync. However you don't have any connectivity because Sprint canceled your PVC.

Well they pulled the plug in Chicago 9:01 PM CST 17-SEP-02.
Now what to do with this dedicated line and Zyxel 652 Router, that Cyberonic/Worldcom says they cannot utilize.

They told me @ 12000 ft out.. I wont reach 1.5/768.

Sux.. I was at 4.1/864.

Looks like ATTBI @ 1.5/256 for now until they go tierd, then I can go 3.0/384.

Heh , I wish I could go back 4 years in time, when it was 10/1.1 for $35/month

What progress we made.

I died is LA last night (9/17) too.

I placed my Speakeasy order today. They have a GREAT interface for account management.

I picked them over Covad, because Covad insists on giving you a box that does nat/dhcp that you plug you systems into. You can't be directly on the internet with them.

And Cyberonic is a great deal, but doesn't support my CO.

What's a PVC?

@worldcom.com

A PVC is a private virtual circuit. It's what transports you from the DSLAM to the Internet via Sprint's ATM cloud.

I'm still online here in Seattle as of 1:30AM 9/19, although I'm posting this from my non-Sprint IP so I don't make it easier for them. Earthlink's mail server no longer recognizes my IP as one authorized to use their mail servers, though; no biggie, Sprint doesn't block port 25 so I'm just sending from my own mail server. So far, Chicago, Denver, Dallas and Los Angeles are gone... is anyone else still up?

Well,

Finally they are pulling the plugs from everywhere, shutting down equipment (DSLAM, TNX, Routers, ... etc), soon I will hear the liquidation from Sprint on these used equipment.

Well, who would have thought that the stupid mistake from Exec. could make a lot of people's life in chaos, and burning investor's money to a toilet in 3 years. Cheers to those ID10T Exec. who still rules Sprint. God bless who already got laid off and people who will be laid off.

I hope Exec. of Corporate America take off their fancy sunglasses and really pay attention what they have done to their faithful employees.

It would be nice if it was a permanent virtual circuit. It was only a private virtual circuit...

For those that have not been discontinued, see »Is the Sprint Biz DSL discontinuation legal? and move fast.

Private Virtual Circuit.

and now that I've actually gone to page two and have seen other people post the same thing, I wish I could delete my post.
