Re: VPN, RASPPOE, and Windows Me -- what gives?

Speaking of VPN and such, look at this for my stand along Windows 98SE machine on BellSouth using RASPPPoE.
Not sure that all this is needed. You know if I can remove any of it?

Client for Microsoft Networks
Microsoft Family Logon
Dialup Adapter
Dialup #2 (VPN Support)
ENI 3060 Speedstream (03) RFC 1483 Ethernet PVC Client
Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter
NDISWAN->Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter
NDISWAN->PPPoE Miniport
PPPoE Miniport->PPPoE Protocol
PPPoE Protocol->ENI 3060 Speedstream (03) RFC Ethernet PVC Client
TCP/IP->Dialup Adapter
TCP/IP->Dialup Adapter #2 (VPN Support)
TCP/IP->ENI 3060 SpeedStream (03) RFC 1483 Ethernet PVC Client

I had RASPPPoE installed before and had a MS yoyo to advise me to go to NTS300 so that BS will support me better. They had modified the logon and not told me so as it was (PPPoE) would not logon to service. All I would have had to do is change to complete address line for proper logon.

I did follow his advice and couple moths later had all sorts of problems. Went back to RASPPPoE and no problems yet very slightly lower averages on ThroughPut. Yet I get good reports on Tweak Test.

What do you advise me to do?
1. Remove something not needed or;
2. Go shoot me a tech?

Sorry I can't help you there, mine came to me via my company....

Your company should provide you with a "approved" VPN client software package....

Where can I get an alternative VPN client like this? I hunted around briefly for one, but didn't find anything. Welcome suggestions.

Don't think its RASPPPoE..... Think its ME VPN...... I run Me and use VPN software, a proprietary version based on IPSec and do not have a problem..... Also run it on a W2K machine with RASPPPoE...

Hey, folks...

Running the following setup:

- Windows ME
- Linksys 10/100 NIC
- Zyxel DSL modem
- MindSpring DSL service
- RASPPOE

I'm not having a bit of trouble with my RASPPOE -- gave up Enternet 300 AND WinPoet for this little programming gem. I just wish I could get VPN to work with my DSL connection.

However, with the two encryption options (password and data) turned on in the Windows ME VPN dial-up dialogue, the system hangs. Turning off the two encryption options permits me to search for various file servers on my office network. However, I am not allowed to browse the file servers as I can with my Windows 2000 laptop.

In fact, I can reach my office VPN server using the same RASPPOE setup on a Windows 2000 machine with a 3Com PCMCIA NIC without a hitch.

Any suggestion?
