I'm a baaaaad man!

Damnit! I just bought a new PC and switched from Win98 to WinXP (home). My download speed went from 1.8-2Mb - to a lousy 640K! What gives? How can I be sure that my modem is still "uncapped" (like it was on my Win98 box)? I have Road Runner service. All I did was move the nic cable from my old box to my new one and connected. I didn't install the CD that came with my service (neither did the guy who installed my RoadRunner that I could see). I didn't play with any WIndows Netrowking settings like he did either; I figured I'd have to eventually, but I just plugged in the modem to see what would happen, and I got connected! Now my download speedd is for S__T! HELP!!!

Can anyone help this poor dope?

Sounds like to need to tweak your new box. Head on over to Broadband Tweaks Forum and they'll fix you up. Click here.

If it ain't broken TWEAK IT!

I agree with the other 2 posters, your RWIN is probably not set correctly and the easiest way to "fix" that is run a tweak program.

Thanx guys! Unfortunately, I had already tried the tweak test, and it came back with no recommendations ("Looking good!" was I think what it said). Any other suggestions? I really appreciate your responses.

I'll keep checking things out. I'm going to reconnect my Win98 to see if I can still get that good performance (just to onfirm that was indeed the switch to WinXP and not something to do with my service - like they "recapped" my modem)...

you might try putting your old network card in your new one.
