Re: Computer ever so slow!

I would suspect some other application may be running in the background that is causing your slow down.

Go to the Start > Run type in msinfo32.exe > Software Environment > Running Tasks

This will show you all your running programs.

You may want to post a picture of your running programs so others can suggest which ones to disable.
Others running WinXP will probably be better able to help you.
I am running Win98.

CONTANGO and CALLIHN Thank you for answering! This is a list of my running programs as you suggested! I hope this helps you take a guess at my problem,it is driving me nuts!Oh I must ask you this. A neighbour said it could be the Mother Board and yet another neighbour said NO a Mother Board is just a connecting board and it should last for years! (mine is only a year old!)Thanks again!

I am using Win98, so I may not be explaining things exactly right for your XP system.
What you listed in your last post looks more like System Information, not your running tasks/applications.
Above is a picture of my Running Tasks which many load during Start-up.
You want to get comfortable there aren't any unwanted tasks/applications running, which includes spyware, viruses, and/or trojans.
Start > Run > msconfig >Startup will list everything that is loading during startup.
Here are several different links that can help you understand your running tasks, start-up items, and whether you need them running.

Easy way in XP is Cntrl Alt Del, and bring up taskmanager. Look at the CPU usage. Should be less than 5% if you are not doing something. If constantly higher, then something in background is taking all your cpu time. Look in processes running and see what is taking the cpu cycles. This should give you a hint what is going on.
