Try these:
Start, Run, scanregw

He is running XP, scanreg is not a function of XP, it uses system restore.

Could possibly be a virus as well causing this, head out to
»housecall.antivirus.com/

Its a free online virus scanner, better to be safe than sorry.

Well I feel for you. Seems system restore is no replacement for scanregw. *SIGH*

I would defragment the drive(s) however.

I wouldn't worry about those suggestions of more ram and a bigger video card and all that mess either.

I installed XP on a Pent. 233MX with 64MB ram and a 4MB video card and it ran much better than ME on the same machine and everything was just fine.

I would like to add that if you would like a convenient and easy way of analyzing your system then you should go to 'PcPitstop.com' for a free online analysis of your computer. There you will get detailed info on whats going on with your system and solutions of how to take care of problems. The test will reveal everything thats running on your system and will let you know what things running in the background are important and whats not. You can run a full series of tests or specific tests, the choice is yours. Its a very helpful site and whats cool is that its all free. I would also advise you to get a program called 'BigFix', it will detect whats going on with your system automatically and alert you with solutions and fixes, it's an excellent program. Also, there is a way in 'XP Pro' to disable those processes running in the background, it can be found in the help options of XP under 'Services', forgot exactly how to get there but you can disable any process you want from there, you would just have to double-click on an item then select either 'stop' or 'disable'. Just be sure of what you are disabling. Good Luck.

If you want to disable services, go to this site:
and follow everything he says. It's got to be the best site on explaining all of windows services.

No it's not but scanregw is for windows and is not scanreg for DOS and XP does have scanregw which is the built in registry checker/corrector.
