Is there a way to watch VCD without burning them?

I just finished downloading some VCD mpeg files but they arent readable on mediaplayers. Can I view them without burning them on CDs?

You can get a dvd player software like WinDVD or Powerdvd to watch them. Or convert them to a watchable state in WMP which takes a while. Hope this helps! PEACE!

Most VCD's and svcds I get are in bin and que format

I use Daemon tools to mount the file in a virtual DVD drive then play it with WinDVD.

If it's good I run my TV out from my vid card to the tv and watch it on TV, Since my crappy dvd player won't play vcds or svcds

You should be able to simply play them in windows media player. insert the VCD in your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM and browse to the MPEGAV folder and double click on the .dat file and associate it with Media Player and open them with that.

You didn't read the topic title, do you? I don't have VCD yet, only the file. Anyway your solution don't work because mediaplayer don't have the codec to read VCD (only play sounds).

Anyway, I took PowerDVD to read the file as told by jonison and it works fine now. Thx.

LLOOLLL, all vcd's are playable via windows media player (they're in mpeg a.k.a. "media player" format)

unless u got an outdated player or its a divx vcd

I was talking about the vcd file before burn. But even after create it with NERO it still unreadable at all(yes the mpeg folder) and it fudging up my HD constantly lighting up and searching for nothing, must reboot to correct this. Perhaps since it a SVCD format this is why it not opening and messing my comp.

HAHA
mpeg is the abreviation for Motion Picture Entertainment Group. it has been shortened to mpg but the extensions are the same exact thing. take any mpg file and rename it to mpeg and it will still play or burn fine. its not media player format.
LOL

BTW i attached what is in my opinion the most reliable way to convert bin files to mpg files. and you can play SVCD (mpg-2) files in windows media player but you need a codec installed for them. if you have installed a software DVD player then it should have installed the codec for you and mpeg-2 files should play in windows media player.

wrong! (again)

MPEG stands for Moving Picture Experts Group, is the name of family of standards used for coding audio-visual information (e.g., movies, video, music) in a digital compressed format.

yeah you are right i screwed up the name. i should have done a google search and cut and paste the results like you did, instead i was pulling from memory and i was a little tired. i will try to avoid small mistakes like that in the future.

cept that part that you added is wrong. mpg is only concerned with audio if it is included as part of a video presentation so music coding has nothing to do with the moving picture experts group. thats why they dont cover mp3.

LOL.

1. Who cares where the CORRECT info came from. It takes 2 seconds to post correct info instead of "guessing" as arrogant people love to do.

2. Second. You are WRONG again anyway, but no where in my original post did I even mention .mpg, just corrected your erroneous statement. That is the "official" definition, and if you have a problem with the audio-visual or music reference/example, take it up with the Moving Picture Expert Group Committee, and stop claiming to know it all. Next, their official site seems to disagree with you, so you're STILL WRONG - »www.mpeg.org/MPEG/index.html#mpeg

EDIT: Typo(s).

The Windows media Player will play .dat files but when you click on the .dat file and it it asks what do you want to open this with , make sure that little box is not checked to permantly associate WMP with .dat files because it can mess up your other programs. I had a VCD format disk and I copyed the .dat files to my hard drive and renamed them to .mpg and had no problem playing them with WMP 6.4.

IF it's not playable I think you might need the right codex.
