Need Anti-Trojan protection: HELP!

OK . . .I seem to be intimidated by the Anti-Trojan software I have downloaded and used on a trial basis. I am now ready to purchase one. I was totally baffled by TDS-3 . . .I could not understand its operations one bit! I tried Tauscan but as with Jammer which I bought and soon discarded, it messes with my home setup not allowing me to view many sites that I frequent and also messes with my OE 6.0 for some reason. I am now using Trojan Shield on my T-Bird and I like it but I am not sure how well it really works. I tried Trojan Hunter on both of my boxes (cable modem on Linksys BEFSR41 Router/Tiny Firewall) and again, I like it but after going to its website am not sure whether or not it is the best and "will it get rid of Trojans if they are found?" I guess what I want to ask is: Is there any Anti-Trojan program that will rid a box of a Trojan if found? And one that is fairly easy to configure? I also tried Achilles Shield and I like it too. I do not want to spend more than $40 on a good program! I use NAV 2002 on my T-Bird and McAfree 6.02.3000.1 on my XP 1900. I run my virus scan programs weekly and keep my virus definitions updated. All I need are some honest answers here . . .I do not want to spend $$$ for a program that is too technical for me to understand or that does not rid me of Trojans (heaven forbid!) and is only a glorified virus scanner, lol. Tuulilapsi Kenosis join:2002-07-29 Finland	TrojanHunter shouldn't be too technical for anyone, and I can safely recommend it if TDS-3 is too harsh on you. I own a TH license, and I must say the support is excellent. TrojanHunter is a very effective anti-trojan. Another good, and easy-to-use alternative would be BOClean from www.nsclean.com In all honesty it must be said, however, that no anti-trojan will catch all trojans, and with bad luck, a trojan might just slip by the anti-trojan application we have chosen. Such is life.

I use the same AV as yourself, and I supplement it with TrojanHunter (TH) by Magnus Mischel, which I think is an excellent product, although it doesn't have as large a trojan database as TDS-3 or BOClean. TH, TDS, and BOClean are all excellent choices, IMHO. TDS is the most sophisticated and advanced antitrojan on the market, but some like yourself find it intimidating to use, where others say it works just fine right out of the box, with its default configuration. Since you're running XP, resources aren't as much of a problem as on my Win98SE, where TH Guard (the resident part) uses only about 2% system resources -- whereas TDS with execution scanning activated would use about 12% resources. Both TH and BOClean are "set it and forget it" types of tools. It's up to you, I think TH costs $34.95 and is available as 30-day free trial. TDS is available as a trial version, although I think execution scanning is only activated with the registered version. :)

The reason that I feel that I need a good Anti-Trojan is because I managed somehow to catch two Trojans two months ago on my XP 1900 (NO . . .not Windows XP! I run Win 98 se on both of my boxes) . . .one a Telnet Trojan that somehow I caught from telnetting to my university's library on my other box (T-Bird) and some other Trojan. My T-Bird has had no Trojans (so far!). Believe it or not, this was the first time I have ever caught a Trojan! I need a program that I can install on BOTH of my boxes and not have to worry about having to buy two licenses or two programs and one that will remove any Trojans if found. BigCountry join:2002-09-21 Huntington, WV	reply to Jammy As stated TH, is a great AT, my choice as well, mainly due to rule creation, and TH Guard. TH removes the Trojans, and it only goes after the Server, not the client, which cuts down on false alarms. The downside to this of course is TH will always score, less than other At's in tests. The tester purposely adds clients, to the test, as well as other non Trojans, So they can get the results they seek.

netsavy2002 join:2002-09-24 UK	reply to Jammy Well Klingon it just looks for this programmes and look for the log files and it shows clearly what is it looking for and it detects a spyware it shows it in red color and logs in green and other programmes in black and well if u u don't wanna delete it when it sniffs anything wrong with windows media or explorer u can leave it like that.IT is upto u to whether u wannna delete it or not.ANd moreover it gives a description of the product and it the privacy policy of the selected product if u higlight and then click on the descrtiption button.So u can make ur choice and the good side it it hunts for u all the spywares.
