Presumptions of an OVERLOADED Adelphia PowerLink network are apparent in several states and class action suits are possible coming down the pike (Statement, is forward thinking in content, and theoretical)
Happy SLOoow, Packet-Loss, High Latency, "surfing".
PowerLink Your link for everything? (this tag line is to broad... I recommend restating such, but then again, I'm just a lame "little people" person, who surely has no clue as to what is going on outside of my "trailer trash life"

| Actually, Many Many powerlink locations enjoy excellent speeds and performance, for some others, however, performance improvements aren't happening fast enough. I know this for sure, lots of work is underway.
Poor performance in one region, does NOT reflect on the overall picture. Should hardware problems cause difficulties in one region, as seems to be the case with toadley, (he indicates that performance took a dump about a week ago), I would say that this has most likely been noted, and hopefully remedy is not too far away. (Repairs do take some time occasionally).
As far as Sharon PA...Performance there does not impact performance in Rutland VT. Or any other region served by Adelphia -- so much work to do, so little time

Or no service at all because of incompetency. -- Adelphia? Oh ya! The company that sucks. Sucks? Oh ya! Adelphia. Powerlink rocks tho.

| toadleyb, up here in Burlington i experience the same slow speeds, it has been like this for about 6 days now. I called up Adelphia this morning, when you call their tech support before talking to one there is a recording which says "If you are a Powerlink user in the Vermont area, we are aware that you are currently experiencing connnectivity problems, blah blah blah...." I gather they already know of the problem, or at least i hope they do. | |

| I live near Brattleboro, VT and also have Powerlink.
Just last week, I was enjoying normal speeds of 1.8-2.2Mbps. Then suddenly about 5 days or so ago, speeds sank to under 400Kbps.
Also, a friend just got Powerlink installed in the next town over and his modem doesn't even stay online for more than an hour a day tops before it goes offline. The tech who brought over the "Self-Install Kit" (big pathetic joke IMHO) was called back to the house the same day, tested the line and said it was weak. It came on by itself in one of those lucky magical happenings and he spent 10 minutes there browsing AOL news while my friend watched him in shock. He did NOTHING to improve the line speed and didn't bother to even try. My friend is middle aged and not too computer savvy and even he was appalled by this behavior.
Last night, my better half's cable connection in the other room kept dropping offline by itself. She called Tech Support and threw the phone quickly to me (I've been a PC Tech for 10+ years) when they mentioned drivers. The VERY RUDE and CONDESCENDING technician told me to update drivers. I asked him about the speed drop and he said that "the problem is fixed now" and that my area "is no longer affected by the problem." Here it is the end of the next day and still only 300-400Kbps on speed tests. The downloads start at 75K and drop to 15K or so. Real nice.
Dontcha love monopolies? Who else are we gonna get cable from? No one. There IS no one else but a bankrupt company full of half-witted, overly snobish tech's to turn to for support. Support? What a joke.
Just letting you folks up in Rutland know that you aren't alone. We get our service from Burlington, too.

| Re: Rutland, Vermont sloooow speeds Thanks for the input. At least I know it is not an isolated problem with my setup. I sent an e-mail to tech support and they wrote back asking for pings and trace routes. My speeds seem to have come back on their own (just tested at 1700/126) so I guess I will just play the wait and see game. | |

| I live in Georgia(Near St. Albans and Milton) and I have to say that Adelphia's tech support is atrocious. Since they filed for bankrupcy, they've been one big mess. It took me over a month just to get them to do the damned survey, when I needed internet and I needed it fast. They wanted me to pay $2,800. No way.
Their tech support is atrocious as well. I've never met any of their technicians in person, and maybe that's a good thing, because some of the ones I have talked to over the phone(when I could get one, usually after up to an hour and a half of listening to automated voices) have been extremely rude. One time I had to hang up on one of the operators because he was being a jerk.
I'm on two-way satellite now, and I have an account with Sovernet. I have never had a problem with either, but I'm still looking to see if there's anything else available. I'm predicting ADSL to be a big winner in the coming days, and Sovernet offers it...I just don't have a clue what needs to be in this area for me to get it hehe

For what?

Did you ever have the service?
Hob -- Heimlich has another maneuver which no one ever talks about, because it usually results in two broken wrists and a bent penis.
