| Windows XP, new install..need old stuff I had my XP go down due to a video problem and ended up installing fresh on a new drive. I have my old drive with the bad Windows still in my mach. It will not boot Windows in any way, but it is still readable. I would like to salvage my IE 6 favorates and my OE Express mail and address book. How might I do this since I can not boot Windows and run export? Thanks. -- Without the spice of risk, the taste of victory is bland.~FRED~ | |

| Re: Windows XP, new install..need old stuff Can the old drive be seen from the new drive? If so you should be able to use the Import/Export Wizard in the File menu dropdown in IE and direct it to the files on the old Drive that you want to Import to the new IE. -- steve1a Visit the Village:»www.vaiovillage.com | |

| Re: Windows XP, new install..need old stuff Thanks steve1a..for adding to the part I didn't know because I don't use those programs. My reason for telling fredsimon about this option is that I have not been able to get the files and transfer wizard to work like I wanted it to, and I usually do better just using 'drag and drop'. -- On a plaque my husband bought me My Friend If friends were like flowers, I'd pick you. | |

| Re: Windows XP, new install..need old stuff I actually haven't tried the Wizard myself... but because of the possible confusion with exactly where in the user(s) files these belong the Import Wizard is probably a good thing. -- steve1a Visit the Village:»www.vaiovillage.com | |

| Thanks to all who gave ideas. With what I saw, I was able to get it done. I know this has come up for a lot of folks, perhaps there could be a FAQ on this; it is hard to find these files and then work with them also, I would also like to see a FAQ how to back up the reg. in XP. Again, thanks. -- Without the spice of risk, the taste of victory is bland.~FRED~ | |

To back up the registry in XP: Open Regedit Select My Computer File->Export Give the file a name done. Be wary that this will create a copy of your entire registry and can be quite large. The last time I did this I got a 48MB registry file. -- Revised list of the Two Commandments: Thou shalt be honest and faithful to the provider of thy nookie.Thou shalt try real hard not to murder anyone unless they pray to a different invisible man than you do. | |
