Rob, your problem is definetly the splitters. They cause you to lose a lot of signal, because they don't split internet signals very well. If you try hooking your modem up before the first splitter, gaurnteed that you will be connected in less than a minute - I've tried it. But if you leave it like that, you wont have any cable TV

So simply connect the modem on the first splitter, and it should work fine - it does for me, and most of us around here.

If you're still having troubles, your cable line may be weak or screwed up, it could be the line in your home, or the line on the telephone pole, and I wouldn't exactly know how to figure that out, but that's the tech's job.

I just got Powerlink installed this Morning. It worked great! I got home from work this evening and it didnt work! My modem light kept flashing! The tech says I have a very weak signal and theres not enough bandwith to even hit the server. Thats why the modem light keeps flashing, its looking for a signal.

THANK GOD MY DSL IS STILL HOOKED UP!!!

There coming out in 2 days to replace the old cable outside the house. If that doesnt get me back up I'm staying with DSL!

Thanks for the informative and helpful replies. As an experiment I'll try hooking the cable modem up at before the first splitter to see if it can hold a connection.

Taken from the Powerlink website (specific page found here):

LED Light Descriptions

Power: When the Power light is flashing, the modem is running a self-diagnostic. When the Power light is on steady, the modem is on.

Receive: When the Receive light is flashing, the Surfboard is searching for the downstream (incoming) frequency. When Receive light is on steady, the downstream channel has been acquired.

Send: When the Send light is flashing, the Surfboard is searching for the upstream (outgoing) frequency. When Send light is on steady, the upstream channel has been acquired.

Online: When the Online light is flashing, the Surfboard is searching for the network connection. When the Online light is on steady, the network connection is active.

Activity: When the Activity light is flashing, information is being transferred across the network by your modem. When the Activity light is off, the Surfboard is not transferring any data.


So it sounds like a signal issue because the modem is having trouble locking on to the proper frequencies, which means not much can be done by the phone tech support.

2 or 3 splitters!!! good lordy man! You want the cable modem off the FIRST split...your most likely have signal problems caused by the splitters which is why the modem can't and won't stay locked on the down and upstream.

I recently got Powerlink and it work for about 2 days. Now the Surfboard 4200 cable modem flashes its lights randomly. My windows box cannot receive and IP now from the modem.

I called tech support and they said they'd have to send someone out. But they can't get someone out for 2 weeks. I'd hate to wait that long as I would like to use the internet. Not to mention that I'm paying for the service.

Is there anyone who has any clues as to what the flashing LEDs mean? Are there questions I can ask the phone techs about my connection that might help me solve the problem?

FYI. the modem is hooked up to a cable outlet upstairs and as far as I can tell the coax goes through 2 or 3 splitters to get there. Does this matter?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Hobgoblin? As you might have guessed, I'm posting this from work, so I won't be able to reply in the evenings.
